When Little X was in Toronto last week for the ReelWorld Film Festival, he got a chance to shoot a video for Canadian rapper Harpoon, who is also an old friend of the director.  The video for Missile was shot last Tuesday in Brampton, Ontario.  The video is about a kid who sees monsters under his bed.  Of course, no one sees the monsters except for him.  Footage from the video shoot was shown yesterday (April 17) on MuchMusic's RapidFax, showing a scene in a car where the boy is sitting in the backseat between two "monsters".  The two monsters are played by Harpoon and War Child, sporting red "Darth Maul"-like makeup.  The video should be out by the end of April.

(April 9, 2001)   ARTICLE IN TORONTO SUN | LITTLE X @ REELWORLD FILM FEST
Little X was in Toronto this past weekend to participate in the ReelWorld Film Festival.  There is an article about him in Friday's issue of the Toronto Sun, in which he talks about his work, and what he thinks about the 'booty video'.

I was fortunate enough to attend the forum/interview and screening in Toronto this past weekend.  The event took place on Saturday afternoon at the Kennedy Commons AMC Theatres in Scarborough.  The interview was conducted by Flow 93.5 on-air personality True, and lasted an hour, followed by a 1/2 hour Q&A session.  After the interview, there was an hour-long screening of his videos from 2000, which started off with his official directors reel: clips of some of his videos from 2000 set to the opening theme of Gladiator.  The screening was followed by another Q&A session.  The topics discussed during the interview included his origins in Toronto, internship at MuchMusic, how he got to work with Hype Williams, his views on American culture and hip-hop, and the state of hip-hop videos right now.  One hot topic of discussion was how Little X is getting criticized for the portrayal of women in his videos, the so-called "booty-video".  His explanation is that when someone like Mystikal approaches him with a song called Shake Ya Ass, what choices does he have?  He has to show women shaking their ass, to fit the song, but rather than line up women and have a straight "booty-video", he decides to put a story behind it.  In comes the theme of "Eyes Wide Shut".  This puts a story behind the video.  It gives the audience something to think about rather than watching the video purely for the ass-shaking.  Overall, I was really impressed with the whole forum/discussion.  Little X is a really great speaker, he has alot of good ideas about hip-hop and style and culture.

(December 31, 2000 - January 1, 2001)   YEAR-END REVIEW
2000 was a great year for Little X, as he continued to gain popularity within the video production industry and attract the attention of many top recording artists to direct their videos.  In September, he was named as Rollingstone magazine's Hot Video Director.  He directed roughly 18 new videos in 2000, including notable videos for Ghostface Killah (Cherchez La Ghost) and Mystikal (Shake That Ass), just to name a few.  My personal favorites include As If (Blaque), Come Back In One Piece (Aaliyah & DMX), and Cherchez La Ghost (Ghostface Killah).  With the impressive list of artists he's directed videos for in 2000, we can expect many more great videos from Little X in 2001.
