2003 YEAR REVIEW
2003 was another busy year for Little X. He directed no
fewer than 16 music videos including three heavily rotated videos for
R. Kelly (Snake, Thoia Thoing, Step In The Name Of Love) and two for
Sean Paul (Get Ready & I'm Still In Love). He also directed
videos for 112, Kevin Little, and Kardinal Offishall which were either
re-shot by another director or not released by the record company.
He continued to branch into commercials, directing a clip for Guiness
beer which aired in Jamaica. My personal favorite videos this year
include: Where I'm Going (Melanie Durrant), Thoia Thoing
(R. Kelly), I'm Still In Love (Sean Paul) and Cop That Disc
(Timbaland & Magoo). My least favorites were No Letting Go
(Wayne Wonder) and Snake (R. Kelly). Much
luck to Little X on all his projects in 2004.

E-ZINE & PEACE! MAGAZINE ARTICLES
A Toronto-area photographer has posted up several images from
Little X video shoots on his online gallery (there was no name on the
gallery so I can't refer to whoever the images belong to...).
Behind-the-scenes images from the Toronto-shoots for the Kevin
Little video and the Melanie Durrant video Where I'm
Going are included on the site.

(including links to the photos I just mentioned) can also be found at

Little X has shot a video
for Jae Mills for the track No, No, No. The
video was shot in Jamaica and includes a cameo by dancehall artist
Spragga Benz, also credits "Tone & Nige" as co-directors. The
video has been getting airplay on MTV Jams and BET.

The small Toronto-based
Urban Music Video E-zine has published an article about Little X
(who grew up in the Toronto suburb of Brampton). (The author
of the article even cites this site as a reference!)

Canadian urban magazine
Peace!
has also published an article on Little X. The article and
interview are very long, and covers topics such as his Toronto-roots,
the video business, his visual style, and his views of American pop
culture. I believe that the print version of the magazine is
available at Futureshop stores across Toronto and select urban
clothing stores as well (not exactly sure). The article can also
be read at their website
peacemagazine.com. There are two intro images that randomly
load, one of R. Kelly and one of Little X; if the Little X one doesn't
load, just reload the page.

LITTLE X AT SPOKEN-WORD CONCERT IN TORONTO THIS WEEKEND
|
NEW CASSIDY VIDEO
Little X will be performing his poetry at the 5th Annual When
Brothers Speak Spoken Word Concert tonight and tomorrow night in
Toronto. For those who don't know, Little X was involved in the
Toronto spoken-word scene back in the day before he moved to New York
to start his video career. This event will mark the first time
that X has performed poetry in public since leaving Toronto.
Another performer at the event will be long-time Little
X-collaborator/editor Black Katt (a.k.a. Katt Brown). The rest
of the line-up includes various people from the American spoken-word
scene including winners of various Def Poetry Jam and Poetry Slam
champions. The event will be held tonight (Friday, November 14)
and tomorrow night (Saturday, November 15) at the
Jane Mallet Theatre at the St.
Lawrence Centre for the Arts (Downtown Toronto). Tickets are on
sale now through the St. Lawrence Centre box office at 416.366.7723,
or www.stlc.com.

Little X has directed a video for
Hotel by Cassidy feat. R. Kelly. The video
was shot at the Sofitel Hotel in Chicago on September 25. Last month I mentioned
that Little X had shot a video for R. Kelly; this may have been the
one. Chicago-area photographer Raymond Boyd was on set for both days of the
shoot, and has posted several pictures at his site
raymondboyd.com.
The video has been posted online in streaming format at
Launch.com.

(October
30, 2003) 112 VIDEO RE-SHOT
The video for 112's Hot & Wet has apparently been
re-shot by another director. Little X had originally shot a
video for the track in late-September. The video was also
supposed to premiere on October 13 on Yahoo.com (according to posts on
the 112 mailing list), but that never happened. According to
Defsoul.com, the video was
re-shot a few weekends ago by Erik White

MELANIE DURRANT VIDEO PREMIERES
The new Little X-directed Melanie Durrant video Where I'm
Going premiered this past weekend on Canadian music station
MuchMusic.
The video features the Canadian R&B singer stranded along a country
road, only to be rescued by several truck-driving puppets. It's
a very interesting, humorous video. Guest rapper Common's part
is voiced by a lion puppet in the video. The video is getting
medium-airplay on MuchMusic this week.
