(December 31, 1999)
As 1999 comes to a close, we look back at Paul Hunter's contributions go hip hop video in the past year. He did not direct many videos which were released this year (only about 13-15 from what I am aware of), but it is understood because he is busy with possible film project(s). Among his videos released this year, my favorites would have to be: American Woman (Lenny Kravitz), If You Had My Love (Jennifer Lopez), and Unpretty (TLC). Least favorite: I'm Not Ready (Keith Sweat). Aside from other great new videos, something I'd like to see Paul do this year is direct a movie.

MTV2 has something special planned to commemorate the new Millenium. Beginning at 12:01am on January 1, 2000 MTV2 will air every single music video ever aired on MTV and MTV2 music channels. Almost 19,000 videos will air in alphabetical order, beginning with A Beautiful Day by 3 Colours Red and ending three months later with Zoot Suit Riot by Cherry Poppin' Daddies. This is a good opportunity to catch those rare or older videos you've only heard about but never seen, especially ones directed by Paul Hunter!

With the year and decade coming to a close in a few weeks, music video stations are planning year-end and decade-end countdowns. BET is planning a Top 100 Videos of the Century countdown on New Years Eve between 11am-11pm. They have hinted that Michael Jackson's Thriller is NOT the #1 video! (however, Michael and Janet videos take 15 of the top 100 spots). Expect to see several Paul Hunter videos to appear on the countdown, (possibly) including It's All About The Benjamins (Puff Daddy), On and On (Erykah Badu), One In A Million (Aaliyah), etc.

VH1 has released its Top 90 of the 90's music video list and Paul Hunter-directed videos have made the list. They did not release the #10-1 positions, but I will post it here once I find them out.

77. Fly Away - Lenny Kravitz
62. If You Had My Love - Jennifer Lopez
40. Honey - Mariah Carey
32. Wild Wild West - Will Smith

According to DirectorsWorld, Paul Hunter is currently doing post-production on a new Jennifer Lopez video entitled Feelin' So Good. The music video, shot on location in New York City from Nov. 6-7, follows a day in the life of the pop superstar and movie actress.

Paul Hunter directed the new D'Angelo video Untitled. The video is "eye-candy" for women, because it is a single shot of D'Angelo as the camera zooms around his near naked body. It has been described as similar to Sinead O'Connor's Nothing Compares To U and Alanis Morissette's Head Over Heels. The video begins with the camera slowly panning back from his face to slowly reveal his body. Then the camera takes on a trip down his chest and around his back and back to the front.

I have found out which videos Paul Hunter has been nominated for in the 31st NAACP Image Awards. He is nominated for two videos in the Outstanding Video category; he is nominated for Unpretty by TLC and Wild Wild West by Will Smith. Other nominees in the category include Everything Is Everything by Lauryn Hill (dir: Sanji), If I Could Turn Back Time by R. Kelly (dir: F. Gary Gray), and No Scrubs by TLC (dir: Hype Williams). Paul directed the new video Paper Chasin' by D.E.X., which recently premiered on BET. Other Paul Hunter related news: the home video & DVD versions of Will Smith's movie Wild Wild West came out today. Both formats include bonus videos: the Paul Hunter-directed Wild Wild West by Will Smith and Bailamos by Enrique Iglesias (not the Paul Hunter-directed version).
(thanks to Kevin for the info on D.E.X.)

According to Billboard.com, the 31st NAACP Image Awards nominees have been announced and Paul Hunter was nominated for two awards. However, it was not stated which awards he was nominated for. The Image Awards honor work by Blacks in film, television, music and books. The awards will be handed out on February 11-12, and broadcast on FOX at a later time.
