Head over to the Fan Forum to download a very special Christmas message from Joey B.
(or click here to get it directly, and here for an "outtake")

11:04am PST
Those anxiously awaiting the release of the "She's Gone Tragic" single will have to wait a little longer - the most recent update from Todd at A Different Drum says that the disc is in the final production stages and should be available sometime in January. According to the update, the tracklist includes remixes of "Thief" (likely including the one by Atomic Sound, see 12/6 item below) and the amazing cover of Moev's "Noise".

UPDATE: Joey B. posted in the Fan Forum, saying that, as speculated, remixes are what's delaying the "She's Gone Tragic" single. He also confirmed the existence of a remix of the title track by The Nine, whose remix of "Defender" appeared on both the "If I Could..." single and the Evergreen album. In a characteristically cool move, Joey also has put up a near full-length RealAudio sample of the remix on Echocentral. Check it out at the Fan Forum or download it directly by clicking here.

In other ADD news, the synthpop compilation Mix, Rinse and Spin is on sale. The album features two Echoing Green remixes: "Aurora (Radio Fiction Mix)" and "End of the Day (Bleach Alternative Mix)". For your $8, you also get 11 other synth tracks from Seven Red Seven (who produced Hope Springs Eternal), Faith Assembly, Color Theory and others. I know I'm planning to pick this one up....

12:49pm PST
As of December 10, the limited-edition album Evergreen is no longer available. If you didn't get one of the 114 copies currently in existence, you're out of luck!

4:27pm PST
News of yet another cool preview comes from a post by Joey on the Fan Forum - this time it's a remix of "Thief" by a group called Atomic Sound. Head to the Forum or click here to get it direct from Echocentral.

The new Echolalia newsletter is now on the Web at Echocentral.
11/29/99
12:16am PST
If you're lucky enough to live in Southern California (like me), you can catch two Echoing Green shows in December. The first one is at Biola University - my alma mater, as it happens - and will be taking place on December 3 at 8:00pm. Both The Echoing Green and Plankeye will be performing. Then, on December 4, Joey and Co. will be playing the Lollapaloma Christian music festival at Point Loma Nazerene College in San Diego. The Echoing Green should be on around 12:50pm for that show, according to Joey.

The long-awaited new Echolalia newsletter has been sent out! Lots of exciting info on Evergreen, Music From The Ocean Picture, the "She's Gone Tragic" single, the new Pamplin album and a few upcoming tour dates (in SoCal - yes!!). For those of you who might have missed out on the newsletter, I'll try to get a version online, either here or at Echocentral.

2. Thief
3. Defend Your Joy (Buck Rogers Radio Edit)

10. Son in my Eyes
11. End of the Day
12. Empath
13. Aurora 2000 (previously unreleased)

Joey says that Evergreen will ONLY be available until the first week of December, so if you haven't already ordered it, get over there now! (Aurora 2K alone is worth the purchase price, IMHO).
11/10/99
11:11am PST
Evergreen update: finally, "Aurora 2000" is done! Head to the Fan Forum to download a RealAudio preview right now - you will not be disappointed. According to Joey, the final mix has been submitted to MP3.com, so the CD should be available for purchase this weekend. Watch the Fan Forum and this space for the announcement!
11/5/99
11:02am PST
The Coming Soon section on the A Different Drum web site now lists the "She's Gone Tragic" single as arriving December '99. Given that Joey posted previews of both "She's Gone Tragic" and the B-side "Noise" almost a month ago, one can only assume additional tracks are the cause of the delay. Music From The Ocean Picture is still scheduled for Winter 2000.
11/1/99
6:10pm PST
From the "Awwwww...." Department: Joey posted on the Fan Forum answering a joking question about writing a song about his wife, Heidi. As it turns out, there is such a song! It's called "Forever and a Day", and may turn up on Music From The Ocean Picture. Joey says it's "only semi-sappy"; as a happily married guy myself, I'm looking forward to it quite a lot.

Just to recap, that's three potential tracks we now know of for MFTOP - "She's Gone Tragic" and "Liberation" are the other two ("Liberation" was performed live during the latter part of the EG's touring this year).
10/28/99
12:33pm PST
More discussion about Evergreen in the Fan Forum. So far, it sounds as though space constraints on the CD have forced the removal of "Anthem" and the original version of "Aurora" in favor of "Aurora 2000" and an as-yet undecided track. Right now Joey is solicting feedback on whether or not the remaining track should be "Terra Firma (Stand)" or a pitch-corrected version of the Analog Boxes remix of "Second Chance", from Aurora 7.2 (interestingly enough, the original version of the remix was pitched down accidentally, which explains why Joey's vocals sound a bit odd). Right now the Analog Boxes remix looks like it'll be the final track, but nothing is official yet.

5:08pm PST
The good folks at A Different Drum are putting on a synthpop festival this summer, and the lineup includes The Echoing Green, as well as The Nine (who remixed "Defender" for Joey) and other great synth groups. The 2-day festival should be touring the East Coast (doh!); more info on the dates and venues will be posted as available.
10/25/99
5:08pm PST
The promised substitution of the Buck Rogers radio edit of "Defend Your Joy" on the Evergreen collection has officially taken place on MP3.com. Hopefully "Aurora 2000" will be on its way soon as well.
10/20/99
12:03am PST
Evergreen update: Joey just posted on the Forum, saying that he plans to add "Aurora 2000" to the track listing! The Buck Rogers Radio Edit of "Defend Your Joy" may also make the cut. NOTE: according to Joey this CD could end up being even more rare than Science Fiction, so get ready to grab it when "Aurora 2000" gets added (watch the Forum and of course this page for the announcement).
10/19/99
1:05pm PST
David Jun just broke the news on the Fan Forum: the new Evergreen CD (a collection which Joey calls "the definitive works of The Echoing Green) is available to order from MP3.com. The CD is dual-format, consisting of both MP3 files and regular CD audio tracks. The tracklisting is as follows:

1. Aurora
2. Thief
3. Defend Your Joy
4. Anthem
5. Oxygen - Trinity Sight Mix
6. Defender (The Nine Mix)
7. Face of God
8. Science Fiction (When You Smile)
9. The Power Cosmic
10. Ambler
11. Son in my Eyes
12. Heart With a View
13. End of the Day

A few notes:

  • "Aurora" was originally supposed to be a new mix called "Aurora 2000". However, it appears that it's just the original version at the moment.
  • "Defend Your Joy" is the album version, not the Buck Rogers Radio Edit from Aurora 7.2, as had been speculated.
  • The "Oxygen" remix is the same one used in The Echoing Green's recent live shows (it's the one on Glimmer of Hope).
  • "Thief" and The Nine mix of "Defender" are from the "If I Could..." single.
  • Both "Science Fiction" and "Ambler" are the versions from the Science Fiction album, not Hope Springs Eternal.

The upcoming Echolalia newsletter, expected any day now, should have some more info on the album.

Another sneak preview! Head to the Fan Forum or go to the official sneak preview page to download an MP3 file of the B-side to the "She's Gone Tragic" single, called "Noise". 8/21/99
11:23pm PST
Word on the Fan Forum and an article on The Phantom Tollbooth confirm something I heard Joey talking about when I was at the EG show in Whittier - The Echoing Green has signed with Pamplin Music for the release of at least one album, which will be produced by none other than dance maestro Scott Blackwell! (All right, I'll be honest - I thought Joey said Tamplin, as in Ken Tamplin of the 80s Christian metal bands Shout and Magdallan. Hey, it could happen.... : ).

Note: this new album is not to be confused with the other new album, Music from the Ocean Picture, which is being released this winter by A Different Drum.

At this time, the DNS problems with Echocentral appear to have been resolved and the site is accessible again. Subsequently, I've removed my Echolalia mirror since you can now go straight to the source.

3:08pm PST
At last, news from Joey! Sounds like the touring thing really has him beat, but he was cool enough to stop by the Fan Forum to give us an update on some stuff. You can jump over there to read the real deal, but to summarize: Echocentral should be back up next week (yay!), the new single off Music From The Ocean Picture is entitled "She's Gone Tragic" and will be out at the end of September (look for a Fan Forum preview), A Different Drum is trying to acquire the EG back catalogue, and Evergreen (subtitled Catching Up With The Echoing Green - j/k : ) should be out sometime before Christmas and will include some "bonus" goodies like Aurora 2000! Whew!
8/5/99
5:28pm PST
Joey is moving the official Echoing Green web site, Echocentral, to a new server. Due to lag on the part of Internic, the organization responsible for assigning World Wide Web domains, Echocentral has been inaccessible for several days, and may continue to be so for some time.
8/5/99
5:24pm PST
While no official announcement was made, the "Coming Soon" page at A Different Drum now lists the new Echoing Green single as Fall '99, with Music From The Ocean Picture as a Winter 2000 release. While this is disappointing, of course, EG fans can take heart since it is the incredibly aggressive touring schedule that is the apparent cause of the delays. Seeing The Echoing Green live is definitely going to make it worth the wait! I've e-mailed Todd at A Different Drum for an update, so I'll post any new information as soon as I receive it.
8/5/99
5:17pm PST
Echoing Green fans in Southern California now have TWO shows to go to in August! The previously announced August 14 date at the Edgefest in Lake Elsinore has been confirmed, with ticket information available at www.etm.com. A new show has also been announced on August 13th, at A Room With A Brew in my home town of Whittier! More information on this show can be found in the Fan Forum.
7/8/99
6:17pm PST
According to Todd at A Different Drum, the new EG single due in "Summer '99" is still undecided. Apparently the aggressive touring schedule has been keeping Joey and Co. pretty busy and they haven't had time to work out which song it's going to be. Thanks for the info, Todd!

The official Echoing Green mailing list, Echolalia, is being moved to a new service provider. Joey B. has set up a web page for anyone interested in signing up. 5/12/99
9:49am PST
The new EG album has a name! According to Joey B., the forthcoming album will be titled Music From The Ocean Picture. It's apparently a more synthpop-style record (which makes sense given that it's on A Different Drum's label), though it has some "rockers" on it as well. Head to the Fan Forum to get the details.
