Formed in Wigan, England in 1989 by vocalist Richard Ashcroft, guitarist Nick McCabe, bassist Simon Jones and drummer Peter Salisbury, the Verve's mystical, almost ethereal dream-like sound has attracted the attention of fans and critics alike.

Verve first performed live in 1989 prompting a record contract with Virgin Records' subsidiary Hut Records. The next couple of years saw the release of well-acclaimed singles like "Blue" and "She's a Superstar." In 1993 Storm in Heaven gained success in both the U.K. and America, and the buzz about this hot new band could be heard on both continents. Unfortunately at this time the band was slapped with a lawsuit by the American record label, Verve, claiming that they would not allow the band to release any more albums under that name. The members of the band compromised, changing their name shortly after to The Verve.
