Meet the Staff
Allow me to introduce the staff. It shouldn't take long, as I'm the only permanent staff. My name is Matt Macchiarolo (just call me Matt if you like) and I am the studio owner and chief engineer at ATM SoundWorks. I have an extensive musical background, having played several instruments since my youth, and continue to freelance at the present time. My most recent full-time gig has been the bass chair for the Ann Arbor-based R'n'B/Funk/Blues powerhouse, Lady Sunshine and the X Band, and I am currently bassist for the Martindales of Ypsilanti.
I attended college at Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee, from where I graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor's Degree in Music. At Belmont, I not only studied music (majoring in electric bass) but also recording techniques at Belmont's 24-track analog/24-track digital recording studio. During my tenure at Belmont, I participated in many hundreds of hours of recording session work in Nashville and throughout Middle Tennessee as a musician, engineer, assistant, or producer. I've engineered on recording sessions that run the gamut from full-tilt rock to down-home country, classical solo instrumentals to 19-piece jazz orchestras.
When it comes to recording, my philosophy is simple: Exceed the client's expectations. Even the most expensive gear in the world doesn't mean diddly if the client isn't happy with the final product. And in spite of any perceived technological "limitations" with a project-level studio like ATM Soundworks, when all is said and done clients will still come away with a commercial-quality product that they can be proud of.
My job description varies from project to project...sometimes I have to extensively and creatively manipulate the tracks, other times I'll simply set up a few mics and roll tape, just capturing a moment. Sometimes my artistic and production advice is requested and freely given, other times I have to keep my opinions to myself...it all depends on what the client and the song requires.
