Alpha (1983)

The cd which initially sparked my interest in the "art-rock" group "Asia." This is an overall improvement over the debut album, although not as popular. The cover artwork by Roger Dean of an eagle flying above a futuristic tropical landscape, with palms and a jaguar hiding beneath the palms is absolutely extraordinary! More reminiscent of Asia's "art rock" roots than the debut. Highlights, include: "Don't Cry," "The Smile Has Left Your Eyes," "Never In A Million Years," "My Own Time," "The Heat Goes On," "Eye To Eye," "True Colors," "The Last To Know," "Midnight Sun" and "Open Your Eyes." In other words, every single song on this cd is superb! It is certainly the most satisfying album created by the original members, see Asia index page. Additionally, the cd booklet includes: lyrics from all of the songs, in addition to interesting artwork. This cd, similar to E.S.L. flows together like a wonderful, peaceful river! Unfortunately, some of the great "artwork" which can be best seen on the album is missing. I have decided to borrow the graphic images until I have created my own at a later date!

1.	Don't Cry	3:31	The intro track on this cd bears a similarity to some of the better songs from the debut album, namely: Only Time Will Tell.
2.	The Smile Has Left Your Eyes	3:13	Continuing, this track is one of Asia's best!
3.	Never In A Million Years	3:47	I really like this track, especially the introductory section; it also has a catchy rythm!
4.	My Own Time (I'll Do What I Want)	4:49	Even better, especially the introductory section!
5.	The Heat Goes On	5:00	A more intense track, than the last two, I have noticed that a verse is missing from the lyrics sheet. Again, this track is absolutely awesome!
6.	Eye To Eye	3:14	Another superb track!
7.	The Last To Know	4:40	Another superb track!
8.	True Colors	3:53	Ditto!
9.	Midnight Sun	3:48	Ditto!
10.	Open Your Eyes	6:26	The longest track on the record and one of Asia's finest, this track combines all of the elements of great "art rock" on a small-scale.
