PINK FLOYD'S STUDIO MASTERPIECE

I was introduced to two extraordinary records 18 years ago. One of these was "Dark Side Of The Moon," the other was "Hemispheres." From the basis of my interest in these 2 masterpieces; I have developed my interest in most "art-rock" music. Undeniably, there is a mystic persona to "Dark Side," something which compels millions of listeners to purchase this "state of the art" recording. Perhaps, "Dark Side Of The Moon" was as far ahead of its time as Days Of Future Passed was back in November, 1967. Ultimately, this is one of "art-rock's" greatest albums and is of course, Pink Floyd's conceptual masterpiece! A concept album which concerns itself with the "things that drive us insane" it is dark and gloomy, but yet disturbingly melodic! Showcased here are some of Pink Floyd's greatest songs: "Time," "Us and Them," "Money," "Breathe" and "Brain Damage!" There are really not any words to describe the top selling "art-rock" album of all time!

Comments

1.

a)SPEAK TO ME   b)BREATHE

3:57

A great instrumental introduction with the heartbeat leads off this classic album. Breathe is one of Pink Floyd's finest songs

2.

ON THE RUN

3:31

an excellent instrumental intro to possibly, Pink Floyd's greatest song

3.

TIME

7:05

What "Xanadu" is to Rush, "Awaken" is to Yes, "Night In White Satin" is to The Moody Blues and "Karn Evil 9" is to ELP, this is to Pink Floyd. Arguably, Pink Floyd's magnum opus, "Time" has compelled listeners with it's unusual clock sequence and other tape effects.

4.

THE GREAT GIG IN THE SKY

4:47

Although my least favorite song on this album, the piano work is still excellent!

5.

MONEY

6:23

A satirical examination of the abuses of money.

6.

US AND THEM

7:48

Next to "Time," this is easily my favorite song on this album! This song penned by Roger Waters and Richard Wright is one of Pink Floyd's most ethereal works!

7.

ANY COLOUR YOU LIKE

3:25

another excellent instrumental

8.

BRAIN DAMAGE

3:50

The song which most seems to sum up the theme of this album, and the consequences thereof!

9.

ECLIPSE

2:06

A fine way to end this "concept" album, with a heartbeat!
