I especially enjoyed the live versions of "The Heat Goes On," "Don't Cry" and "The Smile Has Left Your Eyes (Parts I & II)" from Alpha and "Starless" and "Book Of Saturday", also "Kari-Anne" sounds like a pretty good song!
Featuring the outstanding cover artwork by Rodney Matthews, Asia records a new studio album with a new vocalist and bass guitarist-John Payne, and a new lead and rhythm guitarist-Al Pitrelli, in addition to Steve Howe, who plays acoustic guitars, mandolin, pedal steel, electric 12 string guitars and dobro and Carl Palmer, who plays drums and other percussion instruments play on this cd. A review will be forthcoming once I have finally listened to this cd!
I have listened to this cd in it's entirety at least four times. Although not as impressive (as far as I am concerned) as Arena, it still has its moments, one of these is found in "Summer," another in both "Desire" and "Aria." I also enjoyed "Sad Situation," "Feels Like Love" and "Enough's Enough." I have to wonder if the hoopla over "Remembrance Day" has to do with it's harder sounding rock? In that case, I feel that "Remembrance Day" has some parallels with Cygnus X-1. I am sorry to say that this cd on first listen did not blow me away like Arena did. Certainly, the musicians themselves are tremendous, but this isn't quite as melodic as either Arena, nor Asia! However, another opinion can be found here at Robert Linus Koehl's review.
