GIGS, SHOWS, EVENTS, CONCERTS, FARCE, LIFE, DEATH AND BROKEN STRINGS:
Want to know what we sound like?? Want to re-live those great shows?? Want to forget the bad ones???
Here's a thought or two on a few of the best and a few bad shows:
Friday 13th either November or December 1996 (I can't remember which) Our first live performance. We'd only been together for two weeks. One of our friends was having a party so we played. We had a great time and we sounded bad.
13/8/97 Trams Nightclub in Newtown. Formerly The Feedback, where we'd seen a number of our favourite bands before. Very nervous and it showed. About 30-40 people.
19/8/97 The Iron Duke Hotel. Not really a gig, it was a band competition. We played a great set to about 50 people. Didn't place. Haven't heard of the other bands since.
11/10/97 Brad's engagement party, engaged to the lovely Rachelle. His uncle's band Talk of the Town entertained most of the night but we stepped in and played a short set. We got rid of the rest of the demo's we had left and everyone had a great time. 100 people.
26/10/97 Bourbon Street @ The Forest Inn at Bexley. Sunday afternoon. We played with Fissure who are a great band on the rise ( they were band of theweek in Beat Magazine the week after us) but, Bexley wasn't either of our hometown's and only a few people came.
31/10/97 Our Second band competition. This time for the Macarthur Youth, at a festival called the Fisher's Ghost Festival. Turned up late. Played a wobbly but strong set and won !!!
5/11/97 Trams Nightclub again. This time for the first showcase of the Grow Your Own #3 compilation. Pretty small crowd. The other bands, Method were good, and Repeat Offender were great. We played a great set and impressed all of the 20-30 crowd.
15/11/97 The Warren View Hotel in Enmore. The second showcase of the Grow Your Own #3 compilation. Much bigger crowd. Played a strong set and all of the other bands played well, this included @, The Cooks, Method, PIE and Noogie.
3/12/97 The Harbourside Brasserie, Under the Harbour Bridge in Sydney. The best location for a venue. Just one problem, because it is usually a sort of Jazz club ( ie where more mainstream people play such as Harry Connick Jnr, Kate Cebrano, Wendy Matthews and other famous Australian singers and bands ) we had to keep the noise down. This was another showcase of the Grow Your Own #3 compilation. This time there were more people and it went well.
5/12/97 Our first all-ages gig. Supporting Smudge for the Roar Music meets Raw Arts festival at The Campletown Art Gallery. Over 500 people and two other cool local bands, hard-core teenage punksters Primary Urge and the rockin' Scarpa(although they played too many covers, about 80%). Had the best time. Can't wait for the next one.
3/1/98 Green Square Hotel, Zetland with Mother Negative from Melbourne and The Plague. First up, first gig at The Green Square. It was fun, not many people, but responsive and the other bands were good. The Plague had a lot of friends there and they had a great time.
5/1/98 Harbourside Brasserie, again. This time with PIE, Noogie and Ash Wednesday. We played better on a hot night to a decent crowd, but, being on first at 8pm assured that the crowd really wasn't there yet, eventually about 150 people by the time we finished our set.
28/2/98 Campbelltown RSL with Downtime, Stinkbug, Kombee, Turtle Slime, Thorn, Facelift and Inequity. With bands going all day from 2pm, it was always going to be great for the kids. The bands finished at 6pm inside with Downtime filming their video for their latest single and the crowd moshing and skankin' for the cameras. Then the fun continued outside but by the time we came on the rainy weather had an effect on the numbers, but the feeling was still there. OK, but it was still great to play to an all-ages crowd.
15/3/98Annandale Hotel with The Caper, PIE and Noogie again with the GYO 3 showcase, but this time at the ledgendary Annandale Hotel. Great experience for us as it was THE place where we have wanted to play since we formed. Small crowd but they were interested to hear Brad try his hand at the lead singing spot, while Dave had a rest, for a cover of Nirvana's 'Floyd The Barber".
20/3/98 Ambarvale Youth Centre with Slug 7 and Phenomena. Great, the best yet. Energetic All Ages crowd relishing the chance at seeing bands at their local youth centre. 70-80 people filling up a tiny room. We played a set of every song we knew for 1 hour and 20 mins and they wanted more, so, we abliged with a jam we made up on the spot and a song from the good old days before we had a bass player and finished off with a couple of repeat crowd favourites. Can't wait for the next one.
23/5/98 Uncle Buck's Mt Druitt with Exile. Good night, Exile played (apparently) a set of originals then covers. I only saw the covers and thought they were better than average. We had a good time with our first real set for over a month and played a few new songs which went well. Smallish crowd due to location, lack of publicity but they seemed to enjoy us almost as much as they did their pool.
18/9/98 Ambarvale Youth Centre with Blindfold and Schmuck. Blindfold were up first with a strong set to a small but appreciative crowd. The crowd started to build as we started and continued thru our set. Started off a little slow with some technical problems but they were changed with the change of guitars and the last 3/4 of the set was as good as we've been for a while. Dave was in fine form and impressed all. Then it was Schmuck who along with the large crowd totally went off, probably the best punk band I've seen in a long time. We had a great time and even sold a bunch of CD's which we picked up from the manufacturers on the day.
