SUMMER 2000

Since I haven't had the time to write much recently I thought you might like to read some of the email we have received at the FOGHAT site. Thankyou to all the nice folks who have taken the time to write. BRYAN BASSETT

I am very pleased that the band has decided to continue, because it is ABOUT THE MUSIC. I arrived at the Brookfest show early (3:00) to insure a good seat and perhaps have a chance to talk to the guys and renew my acquaintance with Charlie from his Humble Pie days. Roger showed up in the afternoon and I re-introduced myself and had a great conversation with him about the past, present and future of Foghat. Being a regional manager for Guitar Center Drums, we talked about all things drums and DW, and I was able to tell Roger what an inspiration he had been to me as a younger drummer. He was most gracious and quite humble. Charlie arrived and we began catching up on lost time. The show began and I was treated to a new and re-ENERGIZED Foghat. The set was tight and rockin hard. Brian's guitar work proved to be the perfect addition to the group. I had seen Brian with Lonesome Dave in another version of the band back in the eighties. Tony's incredibly tight bass playing has only improved over the years. Roger has been one of my favorite drummers since the Savoy Brown days. He becomes more precise and even a little more subtle with the years. He put on an incredible show. Now for Charlie. I can hardly imagine what it must be like playing a first gig with a band with 30 years history, but this is not the first set of huge shoes Charlie has slid into quite nicely. It only took about 2 minutes for my ears to adjust to the new set of pipes fronting the songs. Charlie, you are the greatest. What a fine tribute to Lonesome Dave. Even though he had trouble with the tuning on his Les Paul, I don't think there was anyone up there trying to stifle the performance, but perhaps a friendly spirit or two jumping into the mix. Those Poltergeist entities are all around and in this case, I believe they were having a blast. Thanks to the guys for their friendly attitudes and hospitality--and a great show! I will continue to see Foghat shows any chance I get and am looking forward to the future of the band. Good luck and please come back to Chicago-----SOON. Thanks again--R.C. McWilliams
I was in the crowd when you played at Brookfield Illinois...The last time I saw you guys was when you played Soldiers Field in Chicago back in the 70's... all I can say is nothing has changed, you guys still kicked butt. Rock and Roll will never die.... Thank You! Dan Cusack, Brookfield ill
As a long time Foghat fan, I must admit I was very apprehensive about seeing one of my favorite bands without their lead singer. After attending the Foghat concert in Huron SD last night, my fears were unfounded. The concert was excellent and I am sure Lonesome Dave is proud of the current Foghat. You have held the sound that made you famous. My hats off to you, and thanks for the great experience. Mike Trosen
Great concert Charlie really rocked can't wait til he starts blowin on a harmonica. Great interaction with the audience. Good vocals and guitars. Chevrolet seemed to get the crowd going. like John Kay from Steppenwolf said last Sept. in Manasas Va. Foghat is a hard group to follow with all their energy. As always greatest guitars in the world. Nobody gets down on guitar like lead guitarist Brian Bassettt and Tony Stevens on bass. Terrific drum too Roger! Hell of a 4 man band. Love you guys. Please come south again soon. Jim & Sandy Schell Rock on forever!
Hello Just wanted to say after hearing of Dave's death I didn't think the band would carry on. Well, I went to see Foghat last night (Richmond Va) and I had the time of my life. I have seen Foghat 6 or 7 times. There is nothing better than hearing Foghat music LIVE. Charlie did a fine job. There was certain times you could close your eyes and swear It was Dave. Thanx for the great music and i wish you the best of luck Rock on Dave..... Joe
Just wanted to drop a note and tell you that my ears are still ringing from last-night's show. I've never seen Foghat before, and I did not realize that Lonesome Dave had passed away.Considering all that has happened since the first time I heard them on the radio sometime in the mid-seventies, they sounded excellent!!! I now wish that I had concentrated on their music a little closer. I tend to lose interest in a band when they hit the top 40 scene. I now realize in this case, what a mistake I've made.I attended the Salt Lake show, with the express purpose of seeing Blue Oyster Cult. As it turned out,,,Foghat gained a fan in me. They flat KICKED ASS! What a pleasure to see these 70's bands still going strong, and keeping the music real. The music of that era has so much more soul and personality, compared to todays Anarchy and Mayhem. Foghat was the class of the show Saturday September 2nd, 2000.Thanks, Fred Dunn
I have been a fan of Foghat ever since I first heard them in 1973. I am now 42 years old and still enjoy listening to my old Foghat albums. Last night I attended the Salt Lake City Music Festival and found out the sad news regarding Lonseme Dave. I NEED to send you my sympathy regarding this sad, sad, sad... News. Somehow I feel that Lonsome Dave was a part of my life. I think the band has made an excellent decision to continue the Foghat music. Their concert last night was excellent. I was blown away by their energy and musicianship. Two thumbs way up for their show. I was disappointed about not being able to see Lonsome Dave, and I do believe that no one will ever replace him, however the new vocalist was very good. He brought a level of energy and credibilty to Foghats set that I believe even Lonsome Dave himself would respect. Keep up the music. I'll see you guys whenever you come around my way!!!! (Salt Lake, or Vegas) Good Bye Lonsome Dave. I miss you ! Respectfully, Brent J. Lewis
