On the left, we have Amy and David in the monastery/nunnery complex at Ma'lulah, Syria, one of three small towns where Aramaic, the language of Christ, is still spoken. We visited this town with Amy's friends Maher and Julia. Maher's aunt is a nun and resides in the complex. We visited her in her small quarters just before this picture was taken. Afterwards, we witnessed a Greek Orthodox baptism in the cathedral. It was a fairly cool and blustery March day (1994), and the baby was baptized by immersion. As you might guess, it really let out a wail when it emerged from the water. This was a very interesting experience.
On the right, we have Amy, David, and Paducah in Troy, NH just north of the Massachusetts line in the summer of 1994. We were out exploring the area with our friend Steve Bishop (who took the picture) while doing our third of four years of teaching at Cushing in Ashburnham, MA.
On the left is a shot of Amy and David in Hama, Syria which lies between Damascus and Aleppo. This is a beautiful town with waterworks from the 13th or 14 century. In 1982, the Syrian regime levelled a substantial portion of it to rot out Muslim extremists. They have now built a five-star hotel on a part of the ruins in an attempt to hide their deeds from God and the world.
On the right is our house in Herndon, VA.
This is me in Coburg, West Germany in 1982 while it was still on the border with East Germany. Amazing how things have changed and now continue to change in that country.
