10/19/01: The Fall of the Falcons:
It wasn't until the late hour of 7:15 P.M. Thursday night that the Valley
Junior High School Athletic League could crown a Boys 'C' (5'3" and under)
Volleyball champion. In a match that lasted over 2 hours long, and went
the full 5 games, was played to the last point by first seed Cupertino and
second seed Blach. With an early first game win, it looked as if the Blach
Falcons were prepared to fly to victory, in a quick and easy fashion.
Every Blach victory to this point had come in 3 straight games. But
Cupertino promptly answered with two straight wins of its own. In game 4,
down 13-8, Blach rallied to tie and eventually win. But the energy
depleted Falcons, who played so courageously, didn't have enough left to go all
the way. After being down 12-2, the Falcons showed signs that they might
come back again, but this time they fell short, losing the final frame 15-12.
The loss capped a tremendous season in which Blach went 8-1, going 1-1 in the
playoffs. In his first season as head coach, Chris Virgilio was quoted as
saying "I never imagined we'd come this far. It's been a great season and
a great learning experience for everyone!" Okay enough of the sappy
commentary. We lost, season's over, but I'm proud of the lil tikes.
In Mountain View news, the MVHS Girls Varsity team won again
last night (I was late due to the extreme length of the junior high game) 3
games to 0. The Spartans manhandled the visiting Fremont Firebirds in what
could only be described as a massacre.
Good news in the world of academia. I scored a perfect
100 on my first Pre Calculus test. I was quite pleased. Also, my
Beatles class is so frickin' easy, I fell asleep in class on Tuesday and still
got an A on our last quiz.
Sad and depressing news: Chris' car is still without stereo
system. My mom called up the Saturn dealer today and my car will have the
new stereo installed on Monday. So I go yet another 4 days without stereo.
Dan is in the process of talking me into driving him back to MV right now.
I think I'm gonna give in pretty soon. Yeah, I'm a sucker, but I enjoy
giving rides. Don't get any ideas!
