10/25/01: Homecoming Memories: The High School bunch heads off to their annual homecoming tomorrow.
Now I must say that the very thought of having homecoming on a Friday is just
horrific. The bright side, of course, is that all the MV people will only
have to go to school for half of the day, then there's the parade, football
game, and dance. Just think about it, now everyone has to go to school on
the same day! As if getting prepared for the dance was hard enough already
with only the football game and parade before hand. Now, they cram every
single second of spare time the students might have in between events together
to make a full day of events. Isn't homecoming supposed to be a social
event? How are you supposed to fully enjoy it without a little down time?
I'll be that once they get to the dance, they rush them
through the pictures, give them 3 straight slow dances and end the night early.
That's right, sorry everyone, but there's a band competition Saturday!
Thanks to good ol' Robin Kramer again, the marching band has to be at school at
6:30AM the next morning. So let's think about this now, you usually get
home around 12:30ish after homecoming, correct? So then the average person
would have to wake up at 5:30 in the morning to make the call time of 6:30.
That leaves a good five and half to five hours of sleep for the youngins.
Foolproof plan if you ask me.
What ever happened to the meaningful homecoming date?
Lately I've noticed that most of my friends who ARE still in high school are
scurrying around like the crazy trying to find ANYONE that will go with them.
My very first homecoming date was a complete dream, I had the best time of my
life. Junior year, well, that was odd, but enjoyable I suppose.
Don't ever go to a dance with someone as a favor to a friend. Senior year
was a great one as well, and definitely enjoyable. The most memorable
dances however are not homecoming, but prom. Those are the ones you never
ever forget. In fact, Prom is so fantastic that it even gets Dan Means out
of the house one out of every two times. Must be good! So in
conclusion for today, this years' homecoming arrangement bites the big one, and
so does everyone involved with its being moved to a Friday. I never was
much of a dance goer, but I can certainly say that I'm glad I don't have to go.
