Information Getting information about Survivors is a bit of a nightmare! Here is some information and some links for material.
Videos A company called Sovereign Multimedia Ltd
bought the rights to all the Survivors series, The BBC has released some of the most memorable episodes on video. The last I heard (which was back in 1995), there were 6 videos each containing 2 episodes (except for the last one which had 3). At that time they were widely available through most video stores. According to Gareth, the BBC originally intended to release all the episodes on video, but didn't bother due to poor sales. The potential for home copies is probably the best EVER!! Seeing as the
entire 3 series have just been reshown on UK Gold, it was aired at a terrible time of day (9 am, Sunday), and home VCR's hadn't been invented when it was originally shown! We now know of a couple of Surviving Survivors in the UK and the US who have tapes, so if you want to try and negotiate a video exchange, email us and we'll try and put you in touch with someone. (If anyone else is willing to offer this service we'd love to hear from you too!) Otherwise your best bet is probably
one of the TV Newsgroups (see below). A company called Reeltime Pictures (producers of the Dr Who interview tapes Myth Makers were/are planning to release a The Making of Survivors video. They got so far as to interview Carolyn Seymour in 1994, but there has been no word since then. There are 3 Survivors location videos called the First Horseman, Second Horseman and Third Horseman. They cost £16 each or £42 all 3. They were made between 1994 and 1997 and last 3 hours each. The first one is introduced by Ms Seymour herself and features a life story on Lucy Fleming. Check out his website or contact him at: . Robert C. Meade,
Fanclubs Most of the major Survivors fanclubs are now no more. Lynne Sweetman is one of the group organisers of the now disbanded Whitecross Calling. However, she does still write a newsletter called Bridgehead. You can find out the details at her website.
Websites
There are new Survivors
sites appearing
all the time! Rich has written a really good Web
Guide which
is well worth a read.
Mailing Lists There are several mailing lists available at the moment, although things have been fairly quiet recently on all of them. These are the two main ones: Stuart's The ONElist mailing list. To subscribe go to this page http://www.onelist.com/community/TerryNationSurvivors and follow the instructions. You need to sign up as a member. You can also see the archives of the discussions that have been going on for the last year.
Terry Nation/Science Fiction Related There are absolutely
loads of Dr Who and Blake's 7 sites out there. One of
the best Sci-fi sites is the Sci-fi Channel. You may also occasionally
get the odd Survivors
fan on
their BBS: Virus Related This is for those of us interested in scary diseases which could actually wipe out vast numbers of people in all sorts of horrible ways... http://www.tulane.edu/~dmsander/garryfavweb.html
Newsgroups You'll occasionally find a like-minded soul on the following newsgroups. In fact, trying to find a Surviving Survivor in this way is about as close to the "Survivors experience" as your ever likely to get (frustration, despair, a feeling of utter isolation)!
