Eric's Use of Downtime

Well, since I am an incredible individual, I have some wacky thoughts on who I like and what I do with the spare time I have (when not working on my webpages). But, they are all a part of me and I am thankful that you are here to witness them. The following include: what music I listen to, books I read, and more interesting tibits of information about me. Enjoy!!

My Outrageous Passion For Music!

Richard Marx's Signature Since I didn't used to get out much, I have only been to one concert in my entire life. However, it was a concert put on by the best singer/songwriter I know of, Richard Marx. This man is my favorite, his music can soothe the vicious of souls and tame the wildest of hearts. Plus, he can make you feel up even when your down. I also admire him greatly for being himself and taking care of his wife and kids. I actually met him that night and he was very kind, he listened to what I had to say and then gave me his version of a John Hancock, if you know what I mean. If you have not heard his music you have to run to your local music store, or check out his website. He's also on the original motion picture soundtrack for the new movie by Fox Entertainment...Anastasia!! I recommend this great animated feature highly..give it three and a half stars out of four. I could go on forever about the sheer talent of this man and the trueness and love in his heart. Along with him I listen to many other singers. Such as: Mariah Carey, Jewel, Paula Cole, Natalie Merchant, Amanda Marshall, Reba McEntire, Billy Joel, Aerosmith, and a bunch of others. I listen to music a lot! I used to always listen to music while I was sleeping at night, but since I have gotten to Purdue University and have two roomates I have stopped that practice for now.

Television, Radio and Book Highlights!

In some of my other down time left over...I try to keep up on some television shows that I enjoy. If you have never seen the newest sensation on the FOX Network...which happens to be the one and only Ally McBeal!! ...it is the best show currently on television. This show even beats out one of my current faves on NBC, that has become a monsterous hit..."ER". My other favorite drama program is on ABC and it too has become a blockbuster hit, winning many academy awards in it's tenure, "NYPD Blue". My fave actress is in my fave comedy that is currently on air. This shows stars the awesome duo of Helen Hunt and Paul Reiser in "Mad About You". Sadly, the show has finally ended after 7 fabulous seasons. Congrats to the cast and crew on a great run and one heck of a Series Finale!

"South Park" on Comedy Central...can you believe these characters are made out of cardboard??!! If there is one thing everyone knows about the show...it would be this... "Oh My God! They Killed Kenny!" - This single phrase sums up the show...you have to actually hear it to know how funny it is. I love this show...here is how they killed Kenny. I can't wait to see the movie this summer. "South Park: Bigger, Longer and Un-Cut".

Now theoretically, you can't spend all your free time doing these two activities. I said theoretically, it is possible, believe me I have spent a day doing nothing else...back when I was about five years old though. So, now I go to another avenue of entertainment in America...the never failing radio!! When I listen to the radio during the day, it is usually never for music. Oh no, I am one of those infamous people who listen to talk radio...and LOVES it!! One person I listen to is a guy named Tom Leykis who is syndicated on West Wood One Radio. This guy is absolutely fabulous...let me tell you why. I first found him when flipping through the channels one night, looking for something new to do (that's how bored I was), I ran into this guy ranting and raving about some issue. So, I stopped and listened to what he had to say...and he make perfect sense. He kicks off every hour off his show with this little intro that he does himself, in which he tells his audience a bit about himself. When I first heard this I thought, "This is the guy for me!" He starts out with his intro with some points. One, that he is not a right-winged wacko (Rush Limbaugh), nor that he's a convicted felon (G. Gordon Liddy). Two, he also gives out a toll-free telephone number, which people dial up and can talk to him on the air. Whether your a liberal, conservative, or any other form of political party, you must check out this show. People who are conservatives call up every now and then, and say that they listen to his show just because it is so darn funny!!

Since Tom Leykis unfortunately is not on 24 hours a day...I would spend the rest of my free time on any given day doing something people have been doing for ages. No, it's not wash the laundry...but it's read a book!! I happen to have started my own collection of books, some of which I haven't gotten around to reading yet! From the great wise thoughts of many comedians, to political strategists like James Carville; I have a wide-ranging selection of topics and authors to choose from. Including numerous comedic selections from the likes of: Paul Reiser, Tim Allen, Ellen DeGeneres, Jerry Sinefeld, Brett Butler, as well as many others!

So, to say the least...I am the type of individual that likes to make sure he is always prepared for boredom, if it just happens to strike.
