According to legend, Typhoon Lagoon was created when a typhoon, an earthquake, a volcanic eruption, and a tidal wave all hit the peaceful Placid Palms Resort. The once sleepy vacation spot became the Leaning Palms Resort, with debris scattered everywhere, huge cracks in the ground, a small harbour filled with salt water and tropical fish cut off from the sea, and a shrimpboat called Miss Tilly stuck on top of the volcano, Mt. Mayday. The Placid Palms Resort had actually been transformed into one of the coolest water parks in the world, Typhoon Lagoon. The cracks in the ground from the earthquake and volcano became water slides; the isolated harbour became a really neat experience; and the "Miss Tilly" became a spectacular sight, especially every half hour when it shoots a 50 foot geyser into the sky. The individual attractions at Typhoon Lagoon include: Castaway Creek, a slowly meandering waterway that takes guests seated in inner tubes around the whole park, through a beautiful misty rainforest, spooky caves, and under refreshing waterfalls; Shark Reef, where guests don snorkeling gear and a wetsuit, which are provided, to go swimming with many species of fish including some non-threatening sharks, or if you don't want to get wet, guests can walk through a sunken boat sitting on the reef an look out the portholes at the fish and swimmers; Humunga Kowabunga, two slides that are similar to Summit Plummet at Blizzard Beach, except that these slides are only 214-feet long and send guests down at up to 30 mph; Storm Slides, three extremely fun slides that send guests twisting and turning through intricate rockwork and caves; Keelhaul Falls and Mayday Falls, two white water raft rides, that send guests down rapids, through waterfalls and caves, and past many rocks; Gankplank Falls, a short family white water raft ride that is sure to get you wet; Ketchakidee Creek, a small area full of slides and pools for small children only; and Typhoon Lagoon Surf Pool, a 2½ acre swimming pool which sends out waves 6 feet high every 90 seconds. Restaurants at Typhoon Lagoon include: Leaning Palms, Typhoon Tilly's, and Let's Go Slurpin'. They serve hot dogs, hamburgers, ice cream, drinks, etc. The only shop at Typhoon Lagoon is Singapore Sal's, and they sell bathing suits, t-shirts, towels, shorts, sunglasses, hats, suntan lotion, etc. Unlike Blizzard Beach, almost all the chairs at Typhoon Lagoon are in the shade, plus there's alot of chairs, so you don't have to worry about getting a good chair.
