Pompallier House is beautifully restored, surrounded by a
well kept garden, and staffed with knowledgeable interpretive staff. |

Printing and bookbinding. The printing press still
works,
typesetting tables are filled with type in their slots,
the binding tables and vices are still used in demonstrations |

At the back of the house are the steeping tanks where the
hides were soaked in tannin, then hung to dry in the rafters. Reproduction wooden tools to
work the leather can be handled by visitors to get an idea of the hard work that
went into making leather. |
