Cruising The West Coast of U.S.A.
September, October, November 1999

The Ucluelet to San Francisco leg of our voyage took us 2 weeks, a three day ocean passage, and stops in several towns  including Eureka, Bodega Bay and Drakes Bay before finally sailing under the Golden Gate Bridge. We spent a month in the Bay area, visiting San Francisco, Sausalito, Angel Island and a car tour of the Sierra Nevadas, before continuing south towards San Diego. On the way to San Diego we motored most of the way stopping in Halfmoon Bay, Santa Cruz, Monterey, Morro Bay, Santa Barbara, Santa Catalina and San Diego.

Carson House in Eureka Ca. (9472 bytes)

Pelicans on the Bodega Bay breakwater (6815 bytes)

Drakes Bay anchorage (12543 bytes)

The Carson House in Eureka is just one of the beautifully restored Victorian houses in this town.

The breakwater protecting the Bodega Bay harbour is a pelican haven.

Drakes Bay is a favourite with San Francisco sailors.

Morro Rock sunset (11509 bytes)
Santa Barbara Mission (11594 bytes)

The Santa Barbara mission is a well preserved museum and one of several missions we visited along the coast.

Star of India museum ship(12029 bytes)

One of the beautiful sunset in Morro Bay dominated by Morro Rock.

The Star of India is the showcase of the San Diego Maritime museum.

In San Diego, we caught up with fellow cruisers from Vancouver and new friends we met along the west coast. We visited Downwind Marine and made last minute purchases, saw the local sights, provisioned, and after a hectic ten days sailed off to Isla Guadeloupe, Mexico.
