Of College and other Demons :-)

I graduated in Commerce (with Honours in Business Financial Accounting) from Government College of Chandigarh, Sector 11 in 1995. It was in this period too, that I was a member of AIESEC (the largest voluntary student run organization in the world). I also went on my highest trek yet - to Hamta Pass, at a height of 16,000 feet.

After my graduation, I started on my preparations for the MBA entrance examinations. This will definitely rank among the more interesting points in my life, mainly because the examination centers gave me the opportunity to see places where I would not have otherwise gone to - Hyderabad, Pondicherry, Madras, Bhopal, Sanchi, Jaipur, Mumbai, Pune and Baroda (where I was to spend 2 years doing my MBA)

The Faculty of Management Studies at Baroda (now Vadodra) was my first stint in a hostel. Phew !!!, washing clothes, cleaning the room (not very often though), midnight trips to the bus stand for tea, surprise birthday parties, heated discussions on just about everything under the Sun, frantic emergency meetings during the exams, and the best, meeting people from a variety of backgrounds, studying a variety of subjects - it was sheer fun all throughout. I passed out of FMS, Baroda in 1998, with my head stuffed full of fundas, and a major in Marketing.

As part of my industry exposure, I had a month long training at Everest Advertising in 1997. Part of the training centered around conducting a study on the motor lubricant preferences among users. This was used to prepare an advertising pitch for Caltex, which was relaunching their range of motor lubricants in India. As part of my internship, I spent some time in all departments of the agency - took a copy test in copywriting, visited a printing house in production etc. - to understand their functioning.

The second part of my industry exposure was in Jasubhai Digital Media in 1998. The IT media division of the Jasubhai Group was about to launch CHIP (now Digit), their first IT magazine for the end users. The internship gave me my first insight into the dynamics of a publishing concern, and the processes that go into the launching of a magazine.
