Aankhen

AankhenThe man is beyond amazing. The walk. That voice. The presence, the towering charisma. Is Amitabh Bachchan something, or IS he something! Decades have passed, men have come and gone, and yet AB baby holds you in thrall like no one else ever has, or ever will.

The movie is another example of the fact that Indian script-writers and film-makers are finally begining to think different. The plot - a bank robbery carried out by three blind men - is different. But then, though it is not hackneyed, it is completely implausible. Unfortunate! The script is weak, and the execution is amateurish. There are cartoonish sequences of three blind bums (Arjun Rampal, Akshay Kumar, and Paresh Raval) being trained with a view to rob a bank. By a cutie, played by apni Sush Sen. Why not take three able men instead, for the job, clean out the bloody bank, and make a run for it?! And the way the actual robbery itself is depicted, is nothing more than a joke. One that is not even funny.

Raval doesn't do too bad a job of acting his part, while the other two have put in average performances. Gorgeous Sush is completely wasted, and Bipasha Basu puts in a forgettable guest appearance as well. But of course, AB is his fabulous self, and him being there makes the movie worth it all.

A bad film, but do go and see it if you are an AB fan. He hasn't played the villain (not talking "anti-hero" here...)too often, so this is your one chance to watch him play the baddie... :-)

Cast: Amitabh Bachchan, Akshay Kumar, Paresh Rawal, Arjun Ramphal, Sushmita Sen, etc.
Director: Vipul Shah, with music by Aadesh Shrivastava, Jatin - Lalit & Nitin Raikwar, and Lyrics by P. Joshi, P. Bhardwaj, A. Kapadia & N. Raikwari
