THE HIGHLANDS OF CHIAPAS (6)
Zinacantan is another village a few miles away from San Juan Chamula and accesible by paved road. It is the center of the Zinacantecos, a tribe numbering some 15,000. The men wear distinctive pink ponchos and straw hats decorated with ribbons.

As in San Juan Chamula, photography inside the church at Zinacantan is strictly prohibited.

In fact, after I had taken these pictures, I noticed a sign which said that even photography of the exterior of the church is prohibited. Fortunately, nobody was around.

This Mayan woman in Zinacantan was weaving items for sale. I bought one of the colorful ponchos.
