Games
My other main interest, besides computers is role playing. Fantasy, science fiction, dark future, modern, I do all sorts. My favourite games are Amber, Champions and Bushido. I began back in high school when some friends introduced me to Dungeons and Dragons and it has kept my interest ever since. I have enjoyed many games but some deserve special mention.
All of the early games were excellent. They were the first and would be memorable just for that, but we had a great crew that made it all work. They deserve the blame for my involvement in RPGs. The culprits are : Richard, Paul , Hugh, Ross, Gavin and Glen.
The Cameron Court era had it's moments. The game I remember most fondly would have to be John Cornford's dark future game which Terry, Bryce and I played just before I went to London.
Then there was Amber. I had never heard of Roger Zelazny's Amber series until I bought the Amber diceless system while I was in London. I immediately went out and bought all the books. Without too much trouble I convinced Jeff and Erik that we had to play and the rest is history.
Like alot of true role players I have been to GenCon.
I went in 95 and again in 96 to fight my way through the hordes
of heathen and their cursed Magic decks.
Since that time I too have been corrupted by the evil of collectable
card games. I have not sunk so low as to play Magic, my poison of choice is
L5R (Legend of the Five Rings), a game of samurai and shugenja set in a mythical Japan.
I have even written a story based on L5R called Gaijin, which
may make more sense if you are familiar with Japanese cinema and have read my
Amber pages.
