... Oh what a beautiful boat she is! I had the opportunity of residing on her for two and a half boating seasons, from early April through the beginning of November. She was docked at the Taunton Yacht Club in Dighton, Ma.. These are photographs and they may take a little time to upload.
My first time at the Taunton Yacht Club was on Labor Day Weekend, September 2, 1993. Serenity was pulled out of the water the first week of November. It was a pretty bad winter here and the following pictures were taken in January / February of 1994. Yes, that is one of the picnic tables that ended up in the river ice.
Even one of the channel bouy markers broke loose.
That winter did quite a bit of damage and the pilings had to be reset. It was quite a site watching the crane at work. Also that same day, we were having an eclipse, but the clouds prohibited us from viewing it.
But soon April came, it was exciting to see Serenity go back into the water after a long winter!
Even though the Taunton Yacht Club is open year round to the members, the official boating seasons'opening Day in May is always a big day at the Taunton Yacht Club, although most members were inside enjoying their cocktails, the yearly traditional ceremonies went on outside. Notice the small cannon by the gentleman in the white caps' feet. For such a small cannon, believe me, it certainly lets out quite a loud boom noise.
Then, like I said on my home page, There's never a dull moment at the club! In all fairness, with the picture on the left, I do need to mention that the current in the Taunton River can be very powerful, making docking not an easy task. And as for the picture on the right, it was easier to do necessary repairs this way, as when the high tide comes in, DT's Pleasure was able to just float right out. Easier than having the boat hauled out of the waters.
Ah, yes, every club needs those wishful dreamers (That's our Fleet Captain with the beard)
So many Sunday afternoons, a bunch of the members would all get together and head out to Shooters, food was great, drinks were excellent and the band fantastic!
Then there were always parties and functions going on at the Taunton Yacht Club. There was always a fun time for all.
And Nobody can forget the rafting up of the boats to watch the fireworks...party party
I also would like you to enjoy visiting the informative link sites I have come across. But, before you navigate through them, do book mark this home site to return and visit my other rooms, as there will be so much more showing up.
If you don't mind, take a moment to sign my guest book.
Below you will find a link that will take you to the Dighton Rock home page. This historical site is located directly across the Taunton River from the Taunton Yacht Club. As many times I have looked over at it or have driven over to it, I have never been able to find the building open. Maybe one of these days I will get lucky.
You'll also find a link which will bring you to Battleship Cove in Fall River. Every cruise down river will always bring you by there. It's amazing how huge the Battleship Massachusetts is. I always enjoyed having company and being able to bring them there, as it is quite a site to see.
