Ayuttaya King Ramathibodi founded the city in 1350 . It was the centre of the Siam Empire for more than 400 years. Ayuttaya is the old capital. It is located about 2 hours by train, north of Bangkok. Today the city is really cosy with lots of ruins to visit. Many of the surviving ruins are classified as World Heritage's. Maesot This town is located near the border of Burma. One of the attractions is to visit the border market where you can buy a lot of cheap stuff. Another thing to do is to visit some of the Karen refugee camps located in the area. The refugee camps are a result of the fighting between the Thai government and Burmese troops. In Maesot we were lucky, while watching the World Cup in soccer, to meet some Thai guys, who had a car. The next morning they took us to Umphang. Umphang 5 hours, by songthaew, south of Maesot this small village is located in a beautifull area. The village is really small, but it is a very good starting point for trekking and river rafting. The 5 hours trip from Maesot is amazing, going in the mountains in fantastic nature landscape. Rekommended is swimming in Thee Lor Su Falls in the jungle. |
