Hong Kong
Hong Kong, the entry point to mainland China. Looking from the sky, Hong Kong seems very impressive with all the skyscrapers and the planned roads. It reminds me of an artificial world, like in a computer game. The new airport is modern and it seems like everything works without a problem.
Hong Kong is a major shopping area with all the latest in electronics, but be careful, the local vendors might cheat you.
Except for shopping and working around in this huge Chinatown there is not much to do in Hong Kong. Though, one thing you cannot miss is going down to the south end of Kowloon at nighttime to enjoy the very impressive view of all the tall illuminated buildings.
The accommodation is quite expensive. We paid around 17 US$ for a night, for a very small room (6 m2) with shared bath and toilet, at the very famous Chunkin Mansion, which is a building containing about 80 guesthouses.

Guilin (Guang Xi)
Going from Hong Kong to Mainland China by bus, was an immediately change in the environment. Everything seemed very different and fare away from life in Hong Kong. Though, it seemed very unreal for me, knowing that I was in China. Now, I was among the largest population in the world, among people that seemed fare away from the western civilisation and western dominance. On the other hand, what I could see from the bus was not what I expected. I expected the surroundings to be much more primitive.
A very known travel and tourist destination in China is Guilin. The city is nice and surrounded by hills. A popular tourist thing, is to go down the river to Yangshuo or further down the river. The Guilin area is considered one of the most beautiful areas in China. A similar scenario is also viewed at Halong Bay in North Vietman.
In Guilin my travel partner and I lived at our Chinese friends house. That gave us the opportunity to get an insight in the life of the Chinese people, which was awesome. In Guilin we went out with the friends and family members of our Chinese friends.

Yangshuo (Guang Xi)

A small town surrounded by hills. More and more travellers go to this place which is south of Guilin   where there are more tourists than in this town. On their main street there is a lot of small bars and cosy restaurants showing the latest movies, as on Khaosan Road in Bangkok. We did some biking trips in the surrounding areas, which was really amazing. Some of the caves in the area are huge and in one of them there was a small waterfall. In my opinion Yangshuo is one of the best places in China at the moment. The food is excellent and really cheap compared to rest of China. I can recommend the fish dishes, which are really good.
