The Himalaya range is an uplifted sea bed. The resulting geology provides an abundance of stone that cleaves in nice flat sheets and blocks, perfect for building stairs, stairs, stairs and more stairs.

Descending the Kali Gandaki canyon.
Ken is surrounded by thousands of big polywogs. 
This canyon is the ancient route of Hindu pilgrims.  Soon, with Chinese funding, it will be the route of large loud trucks. A new road will cut a dusty scar northward through the canyon, through the Kingdom of Mustang, and all the way to Tibet. Progress and modernization at the expense of culture and lifestyle. Will pilgrims prefer this new fast route up to Muktinath, or will they prefer to go by foot?
