Florence, Italy - November 8, 1999 .. November 14, 1999
As with the description for Rome (and Venice), I'm just giving
a few notes on the pictures. There were so many places we went to and things we saw that my keyboard would probably
need to be replaced if I were to describe the trip in it's entirety.
That being said, the museums in Florence were incredible. However,
most won't allow you to take pictures - this way they can sell their own from their gift shop.
One of the key statues for us to see
was the Lions of Florence. Liz gave me a couple of "Lions of Florence" book-ends for my wedding present. So, this
was an important statue to see (one of the Lions was busy getting a manicure).
The Giardino di Boboli (gardens) is with mixed with modern structures, Greek statues and old Gothic
Castle walls. One could easily spend a whole day wondering around the property, and we found a hidden grotto to
boot.
Neptune's
fountain was an interesting mix of creatures - had to have a picture of this. My favorite is the cute blond in
front.
Ponte
Vecchio is the only bridge that survived WWII. It is still bustling with jewelry merchants and street venders of
all types.
