THE GREAT ISLAND

For the past thirty years I've been constantly going to Ilha Grande (Angra dos Reis Bay - Rio de Janeiro State - Brazil). For the twelve years Fátima and I are there practically every weekend.
This island has a bigger area than the old Guanabara State, with 106 beaches, many of which deserted. Others, with native fishing communities, still preserve a very typical atmosphere. In some places (usually the ones with more difficult access) the islander nowadays, in general way, maintain a certain mistrust of the tourist, without however, unwelcoming him. Other islanders, on the other hand, sell their homes and land to outsiders, looking to improve their lives by going
to the coast. Invariably, they regret it, when they find out that life in angra dos Reis, Itaguaí or even Rio de Janeiro, is not what they had expected.
One of the places we most enjoy in Ilha Grande is the Araçatiba Bay.

Long time and frequent visitors, we have been accepted by the local community as an integral part of it, and in this we take enormous pride. In a not-to-distant future, we have plans to move there permanently and
be, as they say, neighbors from "the other side of the beach" (Rifá remains anchored in front of the Araçatiba Bay Beach).
