| Also known as the Fairy Tale Castle, it's easy to see why this is one of Scotland's hidden treasures. Located on the waters of Loch Fyne, Inverary is the home of the Clan Campbell Chief, the 12th Duke of Argyll, MacCailien Mor. |
|
When you first enter the Castle and pass through the modest entrance hall, you find yourself in the armoury, the tallest room in Scotland, reaching a mighty 95 feet. The soaring height and generous spaces make the room quite bright and airy. |
| |
Around the second floor is a balcony opening out into the armoury. Rumor has it that the Clan Piper awakens the family every morning at dawn to the wail of the pipes, although sources say it isn't that early. |
|
| The State Dining Room is a sight unto itself. Looking out over the garden from the second floor, the Dining Room appears fit for a king. The Castle was well known for having the first indoor bathroom in the Highlands. |
|
The walls throughout Inverary are extraordinarily thick. Thick enough, in fact, to have secret doors into the walls as hiding places. There was one just like this in here. |
| |
Since the Dining Room was so far away from the loo outside, a chamber pot was kept just inside the wall in a private area. Needless to say, the garden below was quite lush! |
