Become a BRE Beta Tester
John Dailey is just about to release a beta version of BRE
v.988. To become a beta tester for this new product send an
e-mail to jds@iname.com with your name, bbs name, bbs
number, software name, and anything else that may
seem necessary. To become a beta tester you have to be
able to call long distance to Florida to download the
program. If you feel that this is just right for you
do it! But if you are going to use the game in an
interBBS game, please notify the LC and explain to him/her
what you will be doing.
What To Expect In BRE v.988
In the newwest version of BRE, John has promised many things.
The new version of BRE is now year 2000 compliant meaning that
it will be able to run after December 31st, 1999. Also, John
says that BRECheat will not work in this version of BRE. If you
have never heard of BRECheat it is a TSR that runs in the
background and allows you to change anyh aspect of the game.
John says that he has not gotten to the MIT problem yet so
you'll have to bear with them for a while. There will be
a sysop or LC definable option to use sabres at setting 10.
This is because there are also a lot of people who support the
sabre.
S3Sabre Controversy
There seems to be some problems regarding the so-called sabre cheat.
This is where boards team up and pick sabre partners and send each other
sabres at setting 10. This is the setting for developing unused regions.
This strategy is VERY useful as I am starting to use it myself. I find it
to work extremely well and I am now in 3rd place in GamesNET! Anyways, many
LC's are not allowing sabre partnering anymore as they see this as a cheat,
especially when one board joins up with another. I don't see it as a cheat
but as something which sould be utilized while it can. And remember, the
settings DO slip so you arent guaranteed to hit with a setting of 10.
Anyways, i'm pretty sure that this feature will be taken out of BRE soon.
