In his present life, Darien's parents died in a car wreck when he was really young; a crash that left him with no memory what so ever.
In the begining of series one he doesn't even know that he's Tuxedo Mask, finding out the truth only after getting one of the seven rainbow crystals. He remains preoccuppied with getting all seven of the crystals. He dreams of a princess (any takers on who?) asking him to bring her the Imperium Silver Crystal; he thinks she can tell him who he really is.
Darien finds out about his and Serena's past lives in "A Crystal Clear Destiny" and "A Reluctant Princess".
After this he gets kidnapped and brainwashed by Beryl who pits him against the scouts. He makes one heck of a baddie! His detached spirit in the begining of Sailor Moon R is known as the Moon Light Knight.
Growing up without a family Darien has developed a cool, aloof manner, as a protection against being hurt. But once he lets people get close to him, Darien is revealed to be warm, caring, and funny.
