Haan is a dealer in magical items, who Yakumo met on his travels in Pakistan. Although he is very outgoing with Yakumo, Haan's weakness is pretty Japanese girls. He is very, very shy around girls. Yakumo agreed to introduce Haan to a Japanese girl in exchange for two beast eggs. When Yakumo left, Haan got angry because he felt he had been tricked, so he went searching for Yakumo to settle the score.
In relation to the anime, Yakumo met Haan between episodes 4 and 5. This is when Yakumo learned the beast magics Tou-Chou and Chin-Kuu. Later on, when Haan finds Yakumo he threatens to release two more beast magics if Yakumo doesn't introduce him to a Japanese girl immediately. Yakumo agrees, but Haan accidently releases the beasts anyway and Yakumo is forced to defeat the beasts (Note: in order to learn a beast magic, one must battle the beast to become its "master").
Haan developes an interest in Pai (like most other girls he comes across) and a rivalry with Yakumo. He soon becomes a powerful ally of Yakumo's and even though they don't always get along, they make good teammates.
