Jake McDonald

After Yakumo and Pai reunite four years after Pai's showdown with Benares, they travel to Tibet where they meet Jake McDonald. Jake is a treasure hunter searching for the riches of Konron, the land of the Sanjiyan. Although uninvited, Jake tags along with Yakumo and Pai until they reach Konron. Although he portraits himself as a loner with a tough personality, he really has a soft spot in his heart and enjoys the company he finds in Yakumo, Pai and Naparva.

Jake's personality varies in the manga and anime. In the anime, he his soley motivated by the possibility of obtaining the great riches rumored to lie in Konron. In the manga, Jake is actually searching for the secrets of Sanjiyan immortality. His girlfriend is ridden with a serious condition and Jake believes that if he can find the Sanjiyans' secret to eternal life, he can cure her. In both anime and manga, Jake sacrifices himself in an attempt to rescue Pai and Yakumo from Benares. Although he appears to be looking out only for himself, he would do anything to help the people he cares for.
