Sanjiyan is Pai's alter ego. Sanjiyan comes out with the third eye(usually when Pai is in danger). Sanjiyan is a very independant character who seems to enjoy giving Yakumo a hard time. Although at times it seems Sanjiyan has feelings for Yakumo, she would never admit them.
Sanjiyan is known as Parvati IV. Parvati IV is the fiance of Kai Yan Wang, but she seems to have lost her memory of her life as a normal Sanjiyan. Although, Pai and Sanjiyan virtually never appear at the same time, there is a scene is anime volume 4 when Pai and Sanjiyan talk to each other about fighting Benares.
Sanjiyan commands great power. It is this power that makes her the target of evil beings seeking immortality and the strength to rule over others. There are limits to her power though. She must rest after using great amounts of power. During this resting period, she is vulnerable to attack. However, each Sanjiyan has the power to create a wu. It is the wu's responsibility to protect the Sanjiyan from harm, after all, two lives become one. When one is gone, both are lost. Sanjiyan rescues Yakumo from an untimely death by making him her wu. Now Yakumo's soul and Sanjiyan's are joined forever. This event marks the begining of a long adventure for Pai and Yakumo, as well as a romance between Yakumo and Pai/Sanjiyan.
