Nara
Nara is a small city located about an hour south of
Kyoto by train. It was once the capital of Japan, but is no longer. It contains some of the oldest pagodas in Japan; the largest and oldest wooden structure in the world. One of the three Daibutsu, or Big Buddas, is located here.
(above and right).  This five story pagoda was built in the 14th century.  It gourgeous, but luck was not on our side for it was raining the day I visited.
The front door of the Todaiji.  To give some perspective of how big it is, my sister and I stood in front.
"The Big Budda." This one of three Big Buddas located in Japan. It was built in 752 A.D. and measures 52 feet tall. It is located within the Todaiji.
This was located beside the door to the Todaiji.  I am unsure of what it is.
Myself standing in front of the Todaiji.  The Todaiji is the largest wooden building in the world.
