OK....here goes. I'm just making this page for the Mars fans out there who just can't wait for the English translations to come out, must know what happens, and are somewhat annoyed that there are no pages about the series in English.(^_^ Like I was.) This isn't going to be a super-comprehensive page (ie...I doubt I'll really get around to character intros or galleries or whatnot, though if I ever get bored enough it just might happen...)...I just wanted to do tankoubon summaries. If you don't like spoilers, and haven't read the whole series, then I suggest you don't read any of these. So there, you've been warned.
For those of you who have no idea what Mars is all about, read this first.
And..er...yeah, copyright stuff, blahblahblah I am not Souryo Fuyumi and since Smile is translating the manga I'm not doing an entire direct translation or anything...purely a fan effort for other fans...er..did that make any sense?
(note: ok, i know i said i wouldn't do direct translations, but now [and at this point i've done vols.1-6] i'd just like to say that there were points in my summarizing when skimming over the scene in passive voice just didn't cut it so i did a few dialogue translations. nothing big, but just to make a note of it, yes, i technically did do some translations. so sue me.)
*** 05.28.04. Dear friends, 10.10.02. Yes I am still alive. I am posting the first story from the Mars Gaiden; see below. Special note: I stole all pictures off of Emily's Burning Sunset page. Just so you get an idea about the artwork, which I happen to really really like. :) Anyway, Burning Sunset is a lovely page, much better than mine, so please check it out (linked below.). 05.19.02, 5am. Why hello everyone, I'm finally through all the tankoubon summaries! Except for the Gaiden, and that might take me a while since I'm leaving for vacation soon. However, rest assured that you aren't missing much because there're three stories in the Gaiden, and only one of them is about Mars. And for you Kira-Rei sappy suckers out there (ahhaha..that includes me), it isn't really about Kira and Rei. More about Tatsuya and Rei, and how they got to be friends. So hopefully that makes you a little less panicky? :D Okay, I'm gonna go insert those pictures now and post tanks 12-15 online. Enjoy! ^____- ***
Yeah okay whatever. On to the summaries. ^_^
Volume 1 LINKS
*Giucci's Mars Page: lovely page in Italian :)
Would you like to link to me? Let me know via the guestbook! Also, if you'd rather use a button instead of a text link, Cadie (aka Jujube) from the MARS ML very kindly made me a button:
It has come to my attention that 1)people are apparently still visiting this page, and 2)some of these people are unable to get the English translations of this manga for themselves and feel the need to request direct translations or scans from me.
Okay: I have not updated this page in almost two years now, and there are reasons behind this apparent lack. For one thing, school and real life (that troublesome thing not directly involved with the internet) have occupied my time in recent years. I'm a student, in case that wasn't clear from my .edu email address, and classes and work have eaten a lot of time from my schedule--time that had hitherto been devoted to reading/translating manga. I have therefore had less time to spend on either translating, summarizing, or reading manga and also less time to work on this page. However, I *DID* state in my initial introduction/notes on this page that this was NOT meant to be an extensive work about Mars, but rather a collection of summaries (with the occasional translation here or there) for fans of Mars who could not wait for the official English translation of the manga to be published by TokyoPop (or whatever name that company goes by now). This is why it should not come as a surprise to anybody that I have not further developed this page.
I am very glad that people have continued to visit this page, to read the summaries and to benefit (?) from them. This makes me really happy. I like getting positive feedback just as much as the next person, and several times it has brightened my day when people emailed me to say they had enjoyed reading the summaries. Even though these summaries are not particularly well done, I did spend quite a bit of time on them, so it is nice to know they are being read.
HOWEVER, I am getting very tired of receiving emails from people who cannot get the English translated graphic novels and have therefore felt that I owe it to them to translate/scan all or parts of this series. In fact, this has been happening quite often within the past few weeks, and I am on the verge of getting really angry about it. So once and for all, let's get this straight: I do NOT owe it to anybody to do ANYTHING for Mars. I did these summaries because there is a lack of this sort of thing online, and when I was first reading this series, I felt really disappointed that there was no information to be found. I am very sorry, to those of you who have not been able to get the manga in a language that is fully comprehensible to you, but—and I mean this in the least offensive way possible—it is NOT MY PROBLEM. I wish you could get the manga, too, but I am not responsible for scanning my manga (which, by the way, is in storage at my parents’ home, and which I do not have access to at the moment…nor do I have a scanner), and I am not responsible for directly translating the dialogue because you do not understand the manga you have bought. I am sorry you have spent a lot of money on manga you do not understand; please enjoy the artwork and use a dictionary. I do not have the time to devote to this sort of thing anymore and I am somewhat offended that you have assumed I would just up and scan/translate bits at your pleasure.
*Ahem.* Okay. I’m done with my little tirade. I’m sorry to those of you who have been nothing but supportive towards me; this is not meant for you. I really do appreciate all your feedback and I have tried to respond to people’s emails.
I am really getting tired of being spammed with these random requests for scans or translations, though, so I am going to take my email off this page. Henceforth, please use the guestbook to leave your comments or questions. Thank you. (Steps off soapbox.)
