Bastard!: Destructive God of Darkness is one of my favorite anime. The setting, plot and characters all make for a good fantasy fiction adventure that has just the right combination of violence, humor and slightly adult material.
Dark Schnieder or Darshu, the main character of the anime, is a 400 year old wizard who used to be out to conquer the world but now finds himself being a "good guy". Ofcourse "good guy" to him means fighting Abigail, a devote follower of the evil diety Anthrax, and his band of followers who are on the verge of destroying the four seals which keeps Anthrax asleep and evil under control. It does not encompass his manner of helping them out. He strikes out with his usual violence and slightly hentaish nature.
His change of heart from good to bad was a result of his 15 year imprisonment in the body of a young boy, Luche Len Len. Fifteen years ago he battled a group of clerics and high priests which ended with him being imprisoned in the body of a young boy. All thought him dead except for those responsible for his imprisonment.
