Yusaku Godai : Godai is a retained student sitting for the entrance exam to the University. He is often troubled. He has little money and is often at the mercy of Yotsuya and the Loon Squad. Godai lives in Room 5 and only when Kyoko arrives does he get the motivation he so badly needs. Godai always gets into strange situations that no one else could possible get into. A very kind, caring and passionate man who is often visited by his grandmother who lives in Niigata City with his parents. I like the honesty and down-to-earthness in Godai.

Kyoko Otonashi : Kyoko is the beautiful manager of Ikkoku-Kan. She lives in the kanrinin's (managers) room. She is recovering from her husband's death, and is trying to figure out her life, between keeping memories of Soichiro-San alive and her own feelings for other people. She is still on the Otonashi family register. Her mother wishes her to remarry while her father prefers her to come home. However, she decides that she would rather work for Grandfather Otonashi, who owns Ikkoku-Kan. Although she likes both Godai and Mitaka, she prefers Godai. But she finds herself unable to accept Godai's affections due to their difference in social status and her loyalty to Soichiro. She is often jeolous when Godai goes out with Kozue but just refuses to admit it. One of my Fav. characters in this story

Yotsuya

Yotsuya is the mysterious tenant living in Room 4 of Ikkoku-Kan. Nobody knows his place of birth, age, occupation or relatives. His room is just next to Godai's and he has made a hole in the wall making it easy to sneak into Godai's room whenever he least expects it. Yotsuya is full of tricks. He often taunts Godai and at times, even threatens Godai for free food using Godai's secrets. Definitely the most colourful character among the Loon Squad. He enjoys drinking, disturbing Godai and peeping at couples. These were all done in humour though. My fav. character!

Roppongi Akemi

Akemi is the red-haired sexy tenant living in Room 6 of Ikkoku-Kan. Another member of the loon squad together with Yotsuya and Ichinose. Toghther, the trio often uses Godai's room as a mini pub, celebrating the most ridiculous of events. She spends most of her time in Godai's room. Akemi works as a hostess at Cha Cha Maru. She has several past boyfriends but eventually marries her boss.

Ichinose Hanae

Final member of the Loon Squad. A middle aged woman who loves to gossip and drink. She lives in Room 1 of Ikkoku-Kan with husband and son. Kyoko sometimes goes to her for advice.

Mitaka Shun

A local tennis coach and Godai's rival in love. He is a rich, charming playboy who also falls deeply in love with Kyoko. A childhood incident has left him with a fear of dogs. Depite all the misgivings one might have about him and his methods of trying to win Kyoko's affection, he shows what a gentleman he is by marrying Asuna in the end when he was misled into thinking he had impregnated her.

Nanao Kozue

Kozue is Godai's former co-worker. She somehow gets the idea that Godai is interested in her...which Godai actually is, to a certain extent that is. As Godai once said "If Kyoko-San had not existed, I would definitely like you very much." Godai is smitten by her sometimes and hence dates her. But he had at all times remained loyal to Kyoko. A cute and lovable girl who Godai never has the courage to reject outrightly. Another one of my Fav. characters...Cute Kozue.

Yukari

Godai's grandmother. She took care of Godai since he was a kid. Although she is very old, she is still very healthy. Yukari often visits Ikkoku-Kan to look for Godai. During her stays, she parties along with Yotsuya and the Loon Squad. Although she and Godai often quarrel over simple matters, she shares a deep kinship with her grandson. Another colourful character to watch.

Yagami Ibuki

Yagami is a wild and passionate former student of Godai who comes from a well off family. She fell for Godai when he was a relief teacher at her all girls school. By coincidence, she fell for Godai in exactly the same manner as Kyoko fell for Soichiro-San. She also studies in the same school as Kyoko once used to. A daring girl, Yagami once even when to the extent of semi nudity in an attempt to win Godai. She failed.

Soichiro

Kyoko's dog. It followed Soichiro-San (Kyoko's Husband) home one day. When ever Kyoko called for Soichiro-San, the dog seem to acknowledge her as well. It was close to both Kyoko and Soichiro-San. When Soichiro-San passed away, Kyoko named the dog after him in remembrance.

Asuna Kujo

Wealthy girl who is shy, innocent and demure. She and Mitaka first met when they were introduced by their parents. Asuna falls for Mitaka because her dogs like him. She has the mentality that her dogs like good people.

Sakamoto Honda

Godai's best friend and confidant. He is suspected to be well off as Godai's often borrows money from him. However, they do work part time together. He sometimes gets Godai into awkward situation.

Kentaro

Son of Ichinose who loves playing with Soichiro. He thinks of himself as the only sane person besides Kyoko living in Ikkoku-Kan. A very active boy who enjoys a game of baseball and swimming. He likes Kyoko's niece, Ikuko.

Ikuko

Kyoko's niece. She takes tuition lessons from Godai and suprisingly does very well under his tutorship. A very intellegent and cherry girl. She is a regular visitor of Ikkoku-Kan and has caught the fancy of Kentaro.
