WELCOME TO MY DAY..
IT IS NICE TO HAVE YOU SHARE IT WITH ME...
Well, they're over, the Games..
and what a great job Sydney did with them..making it all look so easy..and then setting fire to the Bridge..
And so great to see that we are finally mature enough, as a nation, to truly send ourselves up in a rather sophisticated way!! Not just Victa mowers for the finale but Hills Hoists as well!
But surfboards and lifesavers, of course, of course..this WAS Sydney, after all, and the SUMMER Games!
The organizers were upset that Dame Edna Everage was far too busy with her New York show to come home to be hostess; seems they had planned for her to be Queen of the Kitch! ...
But Kylie Minogue and Elle McPherson did just fine...
Bet it's the first time Kylie has ever ridden to the show atop a giant thong (flip-flop to foreigners!)...but that was BEFORE she undressed on stage, of course! And showed she has..grown up a lot!!
And Paul Hogan, riding his HAT, leading a team of rollerskating crocodiles? And giant prawns, of course, of course...
And Elle atop her CAMERA..of course, of course!!
And I'll bet it wasn't only the American journalists were aghast at the news of the two fatal shark attacks during the week. How on earth did the organizers persuade Greg Norman to climb out of a Great White Shark and drive plastic golfballs into the crowd?
Takes really BIG people to allow themselves to look QUITE silly, and it was nice to see so many of our real icons were happy to do so..don't think Dame Edna was missed at all, at all!
And with everyone praising the volunteer army, and rightly so, and giving gold medals to officials and chairmen, has anyone given much thought to the technical designers and engineers and computer geeks who brainwaved all those marvellous stage things..cauldrons that rose to the sky.. lighting systems that made magic, machines straight out of Coles Funny Picture Book..fighter jets that arrived exactly on time, and at 500 feet low, to extinguish one flame and then light another..and an incredible stage that could support or encase a performer..and then fold up into into masts and cylinders and form, finally, a giant solid hexagonal farewell message..
But I'll keep you posted!
