The Dog Days, ruled by the Dog Star, Sirius, and called Loki's Brand in Northern Traditions begin today. It is considered the hottest part of the year.
Normally I'd use this day to do a ritual honoring Athena. See the invocation to Athena as an example.
But this July I would instead do a water based ritual honoring water as the source of life and sustenance through the hot summer to come. The obvious reasons I say that are 1) the moon is in a water sign, 2) the Dog Days of summer begin today and 3) it's a holiday in the states so there might be a little bit more time to do something.

The Irish sacrificial God, Domhnach Chrom Dubh, is honored on this day. He is connected with the festival of Lammas as is John Barleycorn, personification of grain, who is killed by being cut at this time

The annual festival of Tarasque takes place on this day in Tarascon, France. The old festival, commemorates the capture of the beast for which the festival is named, a fire-breathing dragon type thing. A dragon float is paraded through the streets of the city and touched by attendants for good luck
