The other day Faith, my 10 yr old ADDer, and I were going rounds about her cleaning her room, or perhaps NOT cleaning her room is a better description.
For days I had been sending
her to her room to get it cleaned up. She would start
out ok but then something would catch her attention and she would be "off".
I kept asking her "what did I just tell you to do?" and she would try to remember.
Finally, she just looked at me with all seriousness and said
"You know how
good I remember
things from a long
time ago?
Well just think,
in a few years I'm
going to remember everything you told
me to do today."
I just burst out laughing. I could not help myself. I knew from personal experience that this was probably true.
I can remember things from 20 years ago in the smallest
detail but do I know where the grocery list that I wrote
out 20 minutes ago is?
I remember the address
of the house I lived in when I was 5 years old but the telephone number I dialed 5 minutes ago has completely left my mind and I am going to have to look it up all over again. Hopefully, while I am looking it up, I will not see another name or number that reminds me of something or I may end up completely forgetting what I am doing in the phone book and just go on to something else.

As far as my daughter and the room cleaning go, I am finding that my ADD~itude is becoming
~ it will get clean in
time and don't sweat the
small stuff.~
I'm pretty sure a messy room is not fatal. I really don't want her memories twenty years from now to
be of getting yelled at for not cleaning her room.
