Choosing child care... is probably one of the most critical activities for any parent! I have provided this information page as a means to alleviate some of the stress that can result from the search for the right child care arrangement. Whether you are new to choosing child care as a brand new parent, or if you are a seasoned veteran, but, for whatever reason, you must find new arrangements, I hope that the information provided in these short pages helps you.

I operated a family day care in my home for for 14 years, and although I am no longer, I continue working in the field as a child care consultant. Over the years I have had the opportunity to work with many wonderful children and families. I encourage parents and providers to develop an open and honest relationship that fosters an atmosphere of trust and cooperation in which the children will thrive!

Finding the right person to care for them during their very important early years can be time-consuming, but worth the effort. Some adults spend more time test driving new cars than they will looking for the right child care arrangement. I encourage all parents to take the time to really explore the options available, understand what they are looking for in care and to ASK when they have any concerns or questions.

Arrange to meet the potential provider at a convenient time to both of you without children present, to get a sense of who she is and whether or not there will be a good "fit". What are her views and practices around feeding, sleeping, outside play time? How much time will be spent driving children to and from school? Be up front about what you are looking for and what is important to you.

When you have found the right provider, you will know...trust your instincts and keep the lines of communication open. It can be the beginning of a long term relationship, one that can be very enriching for everyone involved!
