5:18 PM
I wasn't quite ready to get out of bed at 7:30 when my alarm went off, but I'm glad I did. Jev was up and waiting for me, all dressed and ready to head off for his first day of work at the bookstore. He had posted an entry and told me to go look at what he'd added to his index page, and so I saw it and read it. He said he was feeling better about things, and that in turn made me feel better about things, so we both had a good start to the day. He headed off to work, and I was lazy and played Creatures 2 for a bit.
Well, I was going to play for just a bit, but I ended up spending a good deal of the day playing with the little critters. There's no one set goal in C2, but one of the objectives is to breed more Norns (the creatures) and come up with more diverse genetic mixes. I managed to breed about half a dozen new Norns, and had only one death, a little guy who was born in trouble, and died after only a few minutes. It was sad that he died (yes, I know it's just a game), but I thought it was kinda sweet that once you take care of the funeral, the little guy slowly floats up to the sky and disappears off the top of the screen.... gone to Heaven.
I also seem to have a line of depressed Norns. You see, you have to keep the little creatures happy and looked after, fed, well, and warm, and I noticed that one of my Norns was always sad. There's a science kit, where you can see what's having an effect on them, and one of the "drives" is a Need For Pleasure, or NFP.
Most Norns have a very low NFP most of the time, unless they get bored or lonely, but I have a Norn who has a NFP of 100%, all the time. Nothing I can do makes her happy... even if her NFP decrease is at 100%, the NFP stays at 100.
She's chronically depressed, and I don't have any Norn antidepressants. The bad thing is, she passes it on to her offspring. Two of two children so far are both also chronically depressed. This means I either need to find or make some Norn drugs to counteract the problem, or refrain from breeding Binkie and her children any more. Ooops, so much for that idea. I have all three of them running around together in their little world, and now they are four. C'est la vie!
