An Invitation

January 13, 1997

I neglected to mention in yesterday's journal that my mom slipped on the ice... We had freezing drizzle and mist all night the night before and that morning, and she had gone out to run to the post office. She stepped off the first step, and doesn't remember anything until she opened her eyes sometime later, staring at the flowerbed. Fortunately, she had missed hitting the concrete step. Her back is wrenched, but other than that she seems to be in one piece.

She came back inside after the fall, and I remember thinking it had been a very quick trip to the post office -- she hadn't been gone fifteen minutes. She told me what happened, and then spent much of the day taking it easy. Her back is still bothering her today, and she decided we're not going to Iowa until Friday. That is, assuming it warms up some; it was a chilly 22 here at the warmest today. Brrr!

As for the invitation in the topic... I was checking my mailbox today, and lo and behold there was a message from one of the Wellesley Community Leaders, inviting me to join her webring. I'm honored! This is the first invitation I've received!!

I'm guessing she might be one of the leaders reviewing my site after the Featured Site submission, so maybe this is a good sign. *crossing my fingers*

Double Whammy

Wow!! I submitted my first homework assignment in my Visual Basic class not long before I started writing this entry... and already I've received two messages back from the instructor... the first saying "You did a great job!!! 100%!" and the second with an attachment of my program, in executable form. The Control Creation Editin of Visual Basic 5 does not let you compile a standard .exe, so the instructor did it for me.

I really should go to bed... I'll need to get up by 7:30 if I want to chat with Jevim in the morning... but I'm hyper, especially after getting my homework review and the executable... Okay, so it's a silly little program... but... it's mine!!!

Okay, I do need to get this entry and yesterday's generated and posted, and add the code for the new webring to my rings page, so... I'll go do that and then may be I'll be sleepy enough for bed. If not, there's always the book I checked out from the library today (then started to read and realized it was not the second book in the series, but the first, which I have in paperback and have read).

Oh, just in case you were wondering... Jevim and I played more backgammon tonight... started a 15 point match. He beat me in the first four games! I won the last one, by a small margin. ;)
