Two Strikes

January 21, 1998

I woke up to the alarm this morning after only about six hours' sleep, and so I was half-awake as I answered mail and waited for Jevim to finish his prelab assignment so we could chat for a bit. I struck out in both e-mails, I think. *sigh*

I went to sleep again after Jevim left, and just got up about an hour ago. Hopped on and checked e-mail. The first message, to my friend Delina, had received a reply asking me to resend it, because I'd forgotten to hit enter at the end of each line and her mail reader at work doesn't like that (the whole paragraph remains on one line and she can't read but the first line's worth of words). So I reformatted it and resent it... no biggie.

The second e-mail had gone to Julie at work. She had mentioned she had an interview later today, and I didn't know she was looking for any other jobs, so I asked her about it. I got a message back saying please don't mention her interview in an e-mail again, as other people at work can read the mail. So now I feel stupid. I had been thinking of asking her about my father, as my brother could only tell me what he knew, but I didn't even bother replying to the e-mail. Yeah, I'm oversensitive. Tough. How was I supposed to know?

Anyway, that really messed with my mood, so I get the feeling this is going to be another one of those rollercoaster days. And, of course, Jevim is off at classes until three, then he's going to help his friend network his computers, and I don't know how long that will take. I should work on my homework (in fact, I will try after I finish this up), but I'm not in the mood and I don't know how much I'll absorb.

I took a bath a while ago and finished reading Ender's Game, and I've just written a review of it. I'm wanting to put up a site with my fiction writing and reviews and links of other authors and books I've read, probably on my XOOM site. If I get around to actually doing it, I will post a link to for you.

I think I must have MWPD -- Multiple Web Page Disorder -- I'm always coming up with sites I'd like to make. I spent most of my online time yesterday looking for the perfect address in SiliconValleyHaven to put a site of HTML, Visual Basic, and C++ programming stuff.

I've promised myself if I can get through chapter 7 of my C++ class today, I can spend the rest of my free time working on a new site, but I really need to finish cleaning up my personal site first. And all I feel like doing is diving into another book. Anyone for The Left Hand of Darkness?

Well, Jevim was quite late getting back (after 11 his time) so we didn't chat much this evening. I did call him, and his roomie left just as I did, so we got to talk for a bit in private. He apologized for being gone so long, and told me about his 'fun' day in his Electronics lab and about the library's database system, which he learned to use as a student back in high school, as West Virginia has chosen it for their public library system. Just rambling, mostly, until we both started to get sleepy. I hopped back online for a bit, but just hopped off again and though I was going to read a bit more, I think I'll go straight to sleep so I can be more awake in the morning. Jevim doesn't have class until eleven, so we may be able to slip in some backgammon and maybe an Iphone chat too. Goodnight...
