Early WeekendJanuary 24, 1998Thursday I messed around and worked on the library/writing site I've been wanting to do. There's a little bit there, just an intro and a list of some of the authors I like to read, or who have been recommended to me. I haven't posted my review of Ender's Game yet, but maybe I'll get a chance to post more things next week. I'd really like to put up some of what I've written and get some feedback, but first I need to see about getting a guestbook set up and all that fun stuff. And I have a half dozen other things I need to get done as well. I did have fun with the library site, though... I made most of the graphics, after borrowing some books and some wood textures from various archives, and I'm rather proud of my work. One of these days, I'd like to have an archive of backgrounds and bars and buttons and labels and the likes for others to use, but ... so much to do, so little time. Jevim teased me the other day about having so many websites, or ideas for them, so I told him I have MWPD -- Multiple Web Page Disorder. *chuckle* Actually, just a ton of ideas and not a long enough attention span, if I were to be truthful about it. Enough rambling about that though... Friday morning I woke up early thanks to my bladder (typical) but had a hard time falling back asleep, since Mom was up and about. I dozed off not long before six, and at ten after, Mom came in to tell me she was leaving to go up to Iowa. I gave up on sleep, and hopped on the computer and got a bit of homework done before Jevim showed up. Connie hopped online before he left for class, and so we chatted for a bit and she said she'd be up around ten or eleven, so once she fell offline (she never said goodbye, just kinda disappeared), I hopped to work doing my chores and getting ready for her arrival. Admittedly, there was still a large pile of clothes in one corner of my room -- in the way of where my trundle bed would be once it was pulled out -- and I hadn't gotten out fresh sheets or a pillow, but I had things *mostly* together... We messed around on the computer for a bit, waiting for Jevim, but I was getting hungry and he didn't show up when he said he'd be back, so we headed out to Wal-Mart (for munchies, and so I could get more yarn for the afghan), and we were going to get subs with a coupon I had, but on the way to the sub shop, I asked Connie which sounded better, that or Taco Bell, and Taco Bell won. I won't complain. :) We came home and hopped back online and ate and chatted with Jevim. When he went off to take a nap or read or relax (not too sure which he ended up doing), I showed Connie Creatures, and then we went out in the living room with our munchies and watched "Michael" with John Travolta. I discovered that my mom's cat likes Lay's red pepper grill potato chips, but I think it's more the potato chip itself than the spicy stuff that he likes. He has a sensitive tummy, so I only let him have a couple... the first one he stole out of my bowl! He's got strange tastes, but he's a sweet cat. Unlike my little witch-cat (no offense to any witches out there :). She growled or glared at Connie every time Connie tried to pet her. I told her if she acted like that when Jevim was here, one of them was gonna end up out in a snowdrift, and it wasn't going to be Jevim! He's always teasing me about having to put up with her, but I hope they can get along. She's a brat and I know it, but I don't know how to change her disposition. Mom got home as we were making our dinner -- cheese ravioli with tomato sauce -- so we ate and watched Babylon 5 in my room (yes, I'm getting hooked on it, thanks to Jevim, and the fact that TBS is showing it from the beginning, so I can figure out what's going on), then we just goofed off in here, on the computer and surfing channels on TV. Connie likes to just channel-surf and it sometimes drives me a little batty, but I survived. I took a bath and she played on the computer and chatted with Jevim some, then when she was done, I took over and chatted with him a bit more. We hopped offline and watched part of "Always" that was on USA network (it's one of my favorite movies; I have it on video, but no VCR in my room), got settled into bed, and then turned off the movie and went to sleep, since we were both pretty tired. I woke up around eight this morning (after my usual 5am wakeup call from my bladder) and hopped online. Jevim wasn't on, so we just goofed off and Connie channel-surfed. We made up some address labels for her at her new address, and I checked on my SportSim Fantasy Basketball teams and set up spreadsheets so I could see how my players have really been playing, instead of relying on just the overall averages. I fell from 2nd to 7th in the MidSeason league yesterday, but my players hadn't played any games the night before and so that was a big part of it (midseason has just started this past week), and everyone played last night, so hopefully I'll be back up higher soon. For someone who doesn't like sports much (basketball is okay, IMO), I'm enjoying playing Fantasy Basketball, and I was the one who got Jevim to sign up for midseason, now that I have a clue. Connie and I were bored... at least, I was, so I looked at the local theater's online listings and saw that Titanic was still playing (big surprise? I think not!), at 12:30 (it was about 11:40), and so we had a quick lunch and hurried out to the theater. Got in on the last trailer and sat up near the front. I liked it just as much the second time, and when we got home, Mom showed me our photographs that had come in... they looked better printed than they did on the monitor, and they don't look too bad, so I'll be sending one to Jevim in the near future. I'd like to get one scanned, but my scanner is kaput, so... *sigh* Mom asked us if Connie could stay for a bit, and when she said yes, she asked if pizza sounded good, or KFC. We decided on pizza, and called in an order, then went to pick it up and pigged out. I was starving and it was good... I'd paid for it.. it was only about $8.50, but when we got back, mom had left me $5 laying on the table to help pay for it, which was nice, considering that I've spent a good bit this weekend. Of course, she also reminded me that I owe her $45 on the pictures, too. *chuckle* Oh well, it's only money. Connie stayed just a little while longer, then headed home around five. I caught Jevim on for a bit, then went to take a bath while he went for dinner and did some work on his linux system. I managed to get through a couple more chapters of LeGuin's The Left Hand of Darkness and it's starting to go a bit better, so maybe I will make it through. I was beginning to have my doubts, there for a while. Jevim and I played tag after my bath, and he was going to go off down the hall to play some Nintendo 64 with some of his hallmates while the kernel on the linux system rebuilt, so I tackled a little more C++, played some backgammon (won two games!) and then opened up Notepad to write this. We just met up again a minute or two ago on IRC, and he's off rebooting the NT system and should be back shortly, so I'm going to wrap this up. TTYL...
