A Hint of SpringJanuary 26, 1998The temperature today made it up to nearly fifty... nice and warm for a winter day in Missouri, and it even qualifies as a mild California winter's day. Mom and I went out this morning, to go to the bank and the library (I got several books, including The Last Unicorn by Peter S. Beagle and Speaker for the Dead by Orson Scott Card, sequel to Ender's Game), and she tried to get into the automatic car wash, but one of the two bays is still shut for repairs, and everyone was trying to take advantage of the sunny day. By time we got back home, Jevim was back online, and so he and I spent the afternoon doing homework together... or as together as two can be, via the 'net. He got a few of his assignments done, and I worked through more than a chapter of my C++ backlog, so I think we did well. I'm up to the end of last week's assignments, so perhaps I can catch up this week. *crossing fingers* I'll have to work hard though, and now I have a VRML class that started today (that I may drop) and my Visual Basic to catch up on. My first assignment in VB was due today I believe (turned it in over a week ago), so I'd best get to work on the reading for the second. I really want to dive into The Last Unicorn... I've seen the animated version, but I don't believe I ever read the book. I found it in the adult fiction section at the library, so perhaps that's why I never ran across it when I was younger. I have the feeling it might be one to add to my library (as Ender's Game has turned out to be). But before I start another book, I need to finish Left Hand of Darkness. I'm getting more 'into' it, and I may actually like it when all is said and done, but it seems so slow. It's only a 300 page book and I'm still plodding through it. I'm halfway there, and I plan on reading for at least an hour tonight... I wanna finish! Other than that, not much going on today. I got another e-mail from Julie, and I answered this one, though not as openly as I might have before her message about not mentioning the job interview. My Titanic soundtrack CD came in the mail today, so I've been listening to that for background music. I wish they'd included some of the music from the party down in steerage, but all in all, I like it fairly well. Jevim and I have been playing backgammon for a few hours now, and it's just after 11 his time, so I think this will be our last game, and I'm going to hop offline to read. Of course, as I type this, people from my IRC hangout start showing up. If I go there, I won't get to bed early enough to read, so I'll resist the temptation. I have a game to finish, so goodbye for tonight...
