Jackpot!
March 20, 1998
I confess. I'm a computer junkie. Is this any surprise? Yesterday after I finished updating the journal, I started websurfing, and eventually wound up looking at Paint Shop Pro stuff. I can't remember exactly how I got there, except that I had been fooling around with the new PSP beta and was having problems with it, so I went to the website. From there, I found Al Dawson's Digitoils 101 and since I just love playing with graphics, I decided to go through the tutorial. Actually, I think it was because of the tutorial that I found I had problems with the new beta, but either way, I got sucked in.
Still not used to some of the new interface, I went and downloaded PSP 3.12 which was what Al used on his paintings, along with version 4. That took a while, but once I did, I started painting around 5 when Jeopardy came on, and finished up around 9 when "Flowers In The Attic" was ending on TNT. I had a blast, and when I was done and sat back and looked at my handiwork, I was a bit impressed.
When Jevim got back from helping a friend with his computer, I sent it to him. His response was something like "Umm.... you did this? HOW!!" *chuckle* Connie hopped online later and I sent it to her as well, and she was impressed too.
By that time, I was itching to try another -- of my own design -- and so I started a new painting while I played backgammon with Jev. I wound up getting more sucked into the painting than the game though, so I lost track of how late it was for him.
We hopped offline and talked on the phone for a little while... he's been having a rough time since he got back from being here and really needed to talk. He said he was still feeling bad about some of how my life has changed since we got together, but I tried to convince him that I was happy my life had changed, and I certainly don't want to go back to how my life was before, even if I was getting a bit more accomplished then. I don't know if I convinced him, but we talked a while longer about this and that, and wound up getting a case of the giggles over something my mom had said earlier in the day, and I let him go off to sleep.
Connie had still been online when I hopped off to talk to Jev, and I told her I'd probably be back, but she was gone when I hopped back online. So instead, I hopped into the channel where some of my other IRC friends hang out, and chatted with them and put my two paintings -- one complete and the other still in progress -- up for them to take a look at.
Donna, who also uses PSP, messaged me in another window, and told me that ZDU is offering a second PSP class coming up soon, and also told me about the http://pspusersgroup.com site. I couldn't check it out then because my browser was being flakey and I was caught up chatting and still painting, but I went this morning and I can't wait to poke around some and see what they've got.
I just showed mom the beach painting (which still isn't done) and she was impressed too. She asked if I was going to print it out, then asked if I was going to put a boat in it. Admittedly, I've been thinking of it, but I don't know if I could do a sailboat. I guess that's what layers are for; If I don't like it, I can always just delete that layer of the painting.
Well, I'm itching to paint, and explore the PSP Users' Group site, so I'll wrap this up and get it uploaded. Type to you later...
