Discarded Plans

Tuesday, Cinco de Mayo, 3:51pm

Well, I thought I'd get to chat with Jev for a while this afternoon, while Connie was at work. I did catch him online for a bit before noon, but he had to get ready to go help a friend fix up a computer. He said he'd be back no later than 4 (his time, I assumed). It's now almost an hour after that, and he hadn't shown up yet when I hopped offline ten minutes or so ago. I left him a memo on IRC, telling him to call me if he wants me to hop back online, but I suspect it will be a while before I hear from him.

Despite sitting online (on AOL, ugh!) waiting for him, and getting messaged by people either wanting to talk to Connie and then trying to talk to me instead (no, I wasn't in the mood to chat with a perfect stranger!), or just messaging indiscriminately, I did manage to get a few things done. With a little luck and a lot of patience, I managed to download the latest version of Frontier and got that all upgraded. I also poked around the cross stitch boards on AOL, but didn't really find much.

I checked up on my mail, too, though only my main mailbox and not the one I use for my journal-related stuff. Sixteen new messages, and a good half of it spam. Oh well....

I took a bath shortly after Jev hopped offline, and got a bit of a scare when I thought I heard a key in the lock and the front door opening. I called out to Connie, thinking she might have come home after something on her break, but no one answered. I climbed out of the tub and wrapped myself in a towel, then peeked into the living room. Nothing. It was only several minutes later, when I saw the vertical blinds bowing in the breeze and hitting each other, that I realized what I'd been hearing.

I would have stayed at the computer longer, but Connie's desk and chair just aren't right for me. I have to reach up a bit for the keyboard (I don't think the cord is long enough to put the keyboard in my lap, which would help), and the monitor is above eye level for me. I figured I might as well take a break and write or stitch until Jev calls, or until Connie gets home and wants to do something. Connie's not back yet, and I'm about out of things to write, so I think it's stitching time.
